Truro Dog Minding Service

Be the first to review

Truro Dog Minding Service was launched after identifying the need for quality care for dogs around Cornwall without the need for kennels or cages. Proprietor of 18 years, Dawn has an undeniable wealth of knowledge and a kind, symapathetic way which ensures each dog’s own individual needs are catered for. All of Dawn’s hard work and dedication has since been rewarded with a 5* rating from Cornwall County Council, the highest and most sought-after rating available.

At Truro Dog Minding we offer two kinds of service; the ever popular day creche for while you are at work, or our home-from-home holiday boarding in the farm house.

Blanchland Farm is set in 9 acres of private land giving the dogs plenty of space to run freely and play without the worry of encountering other dogs or people. Each dog is treated as an individual and as one of our own making sure you have total peace of mind.

About Us

Truro Dog Minding is based within 9 acres of secure, private land at Blanchland Farm located on the outskits of Threemilestone, it is ideally situated for those commuting into Truro.

The wide range of facilities ensures all personalities are catered for; our heated static caravan with an array of beds and sofas is the hub of activity during the day or there is the tucked away cosy ‘Cubbyhole’ which is a toasty den in the winter or a cool haven during the summer. Both of these hide-outs are located in the outside yard which opens out in to an acre of secure paddock, this is all open and accessible for the dogs to roam as they wish all day.

For those active dogs with energy to burn our exercise field has an all-year agility course set up, during the day small groups are taken out for a run and a play and a chance to show off their agility skills. The Orchard offers a peaceful corner for the dogs that come for a quiet day, the fruit trees make for a good snuffle and the summer house with its chairs and sofas is a perfect sanctuary for an afternoon snooze. Because our land is completely private it ensures all dogs can be exercised off the lead without the risk of encountering other dogs that may not be vaccinated.

The farm is protected by a security gate and cctv and a first aid covered member of staff is on site at all times. We kindly request that all dogs are up to date with their vaccinations and the kennel cough vaccine is recommend also, we then keep a copy of the vaccine page for our own records.

As you would expect, we are fully insured and licenced for day care and boarding dog care, we comply with all licencing regulations having passed the councils strict inspection and have been rated 5*.

Viewings are welcomed by appointment and you are most welcome to bring your dog so that they can become familiar to their surroundings and new friends.

Please do not hesitate to get in contact if you have any further questions.

Important Information

A little note

During the recent Covid-19 Lockdown there was a noticeable surge in the purchasing of dogs and puppies, as a result of this we have some lovely new faces who have joined the TDMS team.

We understand that these are unprecedented times with some uncertainty for all, but if you are wishing to keep your dog’s name on the register we will need to be notified of any impending absences prior to the time off. For those attendees that are on flexi-days, please could required days be requested by the preceding weekend.

Failure to notify us of any absences will incur charges at your normal rate.

We at Truro Dog Minding feel disheartened by the fact that we have been forced in to such measures, but as a small business – that takes pride in the personal, home-from-home set up – we are unable to run without your support. To comply with the strict council regulations, we are also compelled to work to a dog:human ratio, this is hard to rota when we are left in a situation of uncertainty with regards to our numbers so it is imperative to keep the continuity.

We hope that you understand and thank you for your continued support.

Eden Pet Foods

Made in Great Britain with British ingredients, Eden includes quality fresh meats, organic minerals and vitamins, a range of fruit, vegetables and botanicals. Formulated without Grain, Gluten & White Potato.

Eden has a very simple philosophy that is perfectly summed up in their tagline, “Supporting Animal Health Through Nutrition ™.”
The core beliefs that form their philosophy can be found in more detail on their website, but in a nutshell they always promise to:

• Produce only the very best foods possible that are 100% Natural
• Never use grains and cereals, animal derivatives, fillers, sweeteners or flavourings in their food
• Openly list all ingredients – including the amounts of the main ingredients that their food contains
• Use the highest level and quality of ingredients where possible from within the UK
• Use the ingredients listed, nothing more, and nothing hidden
• Use accurate descriptions and never use misleading information to hide the truth about the contents
• Never create misleading packaging with pictures of ingredients that don’t represent anything that is inside the package or use jargon to hide the truth about their food

So what are the benefits of feeding a good quality, grain free diet?

1. Digestion

It has been proven that dogs are biologically incapable of fully digesting grains.
As grain free dog food has more protein and less carbohydrates, it’s easier to digest than food laden with carbohydrate heavy grains.
Amylase is an enzyme that breaks down starchy carbohydrates, and dogs do not have enough of it in their bodies to fully break down and digest carbs. Therefore, grain free food is beneficial in aiding digestion.

2. Nutrition

Many pet food brands stuff their products with unnecessarily large quantities of grains to bulk up their product and produce it as cheaply as possible.
These products are therefore very low in nutritional value, as their main ingredient is carb-heavy grain.
Conversely, grain free food is high in vegetables, fibre and healthy meat or fish protein, which provides your dog with a nutritionally complete and balanced meal.

3. Coat

A grain free diet can be of great benefit to your dog’s coat.
Grains do not provide your dog with the proper oils and nutrients needed to maintain a healthy skin and coat.
As grain free dog food is high in protein, there tends to be an increase in omega-3 fatty acids, especially in food that contains fish. These fatty oils make your dog’s coat thick, shiny and healthy.
The increase in protein also leads to a stronger coat which in turn reduces shedding, a benefit that every dog owner can agree on!

4. Energy

Grain free dog foods can be of benefit to your dog’s energy levels.
Protein is the main source of energy for dogs, and regular dog food doesn’t provide your dog with much protein or energy, as it will mostly come out as waste.
Alternatively, grain free dog food is high in protein and is therefore an excellent energy source.
This mirrors the way humans eat. If we eat a low-quality, high-carb diet we don’t have enough energy and do not really fill up.
Grain free dog food is also recommended for pregnant and lactating dogs, as it will provide the energy the dog needs to produce puppies and to provide them with nutrients.

5. Allergies

If your dog suffers from an allergy, making the switch to grain free dog food can be especially beneficial.
Many dogs are allergic to wheat and corn, common ingredients in dog food with grain. If your dog has diarrhea, an itchy behind or is licking their feet, these are symptoms of an allergic reaction and you should visit your vet immediately.
If the result is that your dog has a grain allergy, then you will be advised to make the switch to grain free dog food.

6. Weight

Another benefit of grain free dog food is that it can help control your pet’s weight.
If dogs consume an excessive amount of carbohydrates without getting enough exercise, they could experience weight gain. Most grains contain a lot of carbs, so feeding your dog regularly can therefore lead to weight gain.
Alternatively, grain free dog foods have a high vegetable and meat content, and usually include good carbohydrates like sweet potatoes. Sweet potatoes have a lower carbohydrate level than regular potatoes and include more vitamins, potassium and fibre than grains.
What’s more, because of the high nutritional content in grain free dog food, it helps keep dogs fuller for longer than regular dog food, which results in less food being eaten overall.

7. Breath

As dog owners, we‘ve all experienced a time when our pet’s breath is less than pleasant. But eating grain free dog food can actually help improve bad breath in dogs.
Nutrition has a huge impact on dental health, and in most cases, poor nutrition leads to bad breath. Therefore, if a dog eats a highly nutritional diet, like grain free food, it can really benefit their breath.
It’s clear that a grain free diet can be incredibly beneficial to dogs.
If you are beginning the change to grain free dog food, always introduce it to your dog slowly. You should begin by mixing a bit of grain free dog food into their regular food, and gradually increase the amount over a few weeks. This will allow your dog’s digestive system to adjust to the new food.

In summation, here’s why grain free food is beneficial to dogs:

• Easier to digest
• High in fibre and healthy protein
• Gives your dog more energy
• Creates a shinier, quality coat
• Prevents allergies
• Controls your dog’s weight
• Their breath won’t smell
