Physiotherapy

What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is the treatment of musculoskeletal issues that are associated with orthopaedic and neurological conditions. These methods include massage, heat treatment, and exercise to compliment veterinary care. Physiotherapy can prevent and limit injury as well as accelerate healing, restore function and optimise performance.

Who may benefit?

Physiotherapy can benefit all animals, but particularly those with soft tissue injuries, following surgery, or age related conditions, for example;

–          Soft tissue injuries, strains and sprains

–          Post-surgery e.g. fractures, cruciate repair

–          Joint problems e.g. arthritis, hip dysplasia

–          Back and neck pain

Assessment

If you are concerned that your pet is suffering from any of the conditions mentioned, has recently undergone surgery, or would just like peace of mind, then please book in for an assessment with our head nurse, Melissa. The assessment involves taking a detailed clinical history and identifying any concerns you may have, followed by a thorough clinical examination. Melissa will then work with you to develop an appropriate physiotherapy treatment programme.

Treatment

Treatment programmes are determined on an individual basis and are tailored to suit the needs of you and your pet. Programmes may include:

–  Therapeutic exercises

–  Hot/cold therapy

–  Joint and tissue mobilisation

–  Massage

–  Environmental advice/changes

–  Weight management

–  Laser Therapy

 Testimonials

Maxwell is a rescue bulldog, he has arthritis in his spine and managed to knock a heavy table lamp onto himself. He began to drag his back leg and could not support himself.

Melissa provided physiotherapy to his back legs and spine and taught me the movements and manipulations to do at home.

Now Maxwell’s foot does not knuckle and he trots along happily. The physio provided was gentle, reassuring and expertly done. In addition, we have started a regular regime of laser therapy which Maxwell positively enjoys and the benefits are very evident.

I cannot recommend Senlac Vets, Melissa’s physiotherapy and the laser treatment highly enough.

Laser Therapy

We are pleased to be able to offer laser thrapy with our Class IV Therapeutic Laser. This non-invasive treatment can help to ease pain and increase mobility for your pet without the need for medication or surgery.

Long-term pain, sore ears, wound healing, sinusitis, joint disease, cystitis, arthritis, hip dysplasia, lick granulomas…..and many more conditions can be improved quickly, without discomfort or upset to your pet.

Class IV deep tissue laser therapy sends a beam of light deep into the tissue without causing damage, and induces a biological response in the mitochondria of the cells. This leads to reduced pain and inflammation, and increases healing speed.

The laser light is delivered through a non-invasive hand piece, held over the affected area. Your pet may feel a gentle and soothing warmth. Most treatments take a matter of minutes.

Treatment protocols are unique to each patient and condition, and will vary in time, complexity and cost: come and discuss what’s best for you and your pet.

Laser therapy can be used to enhance other treatment plans recommended by one of our vets or nurses.

Melissa has a laser and physiotherapy clinic every Wednesday at Robertsbridge.
