Welcome to Queens Park Veterinary Surgery

Our aim here at Queens Park is simple – to be the local, friendly vets to turn to when your pet needs help. Our head veterinary surgeon has over 20 years experience treating domestic animals, having seen most things in that time, and has been able to pass that knowledge and experience down to our entire team. You can rest assured that your pets are in safe hands, with qualified and experienced staff. You will always be greeted with a smile and a friendly face, and we are happy to allow you to see the same vet or nurse, to keep continuity of care.

Why choose us as your veterinary practice?

We are animal lovers firstly, and our patients are at the heart of everything that we do. We are pet owners ourselves, and we know that our pets are with us through thick and thin – we understand the bond between pet and pet parent, and we want to preserve that bond as much as we can. We work to keep your pets happy and healthy, because we care.

At Queens Park we believe that our veterinary practice is second to none in Bolton, and that our standards of clinical care and customer service really are the best. Our fantastic team of vets and nurses truly care about each and every patient that comes through our door. As we are not part of a corporate or ‘chain’ practice we set our own standards based on what we expect as pet owners ourselves. Being a privately owned veterinary practice means we don’t have a head office dictating how we look after our patients. Our goal is to make Bolton’s pets happier and healthier by providing an excellent level of service and gold standard of patient care which is accessible by all.

If your pet is registered with another vet and you wish to change vets, or if you are looking for a second opinion, then please do get in touch. We are happy to see second opinion cases, and our vets will work with you to understand your pet’s condition and treatment options. We are proud of our commitment to ensure that every one of our clients understands their pet’s health and the available treatment options.

When can you see us?

We run consulting sessions every weekday, with appointments available morning, afternoon and evening. For your convenience we are open until 7pm Monday-Friday, with both routine and emergency appointments available until this time. We are also open on a Saturday morning from 8.30am-12pm. If your pet has a complex issue we are happy to provide a double appointment at no extra cost.

About Us

Welcome to Queens Park Veterinary Surgery, find out more about us here.

We are an independent veterinary surgery on Chorley New Road in Bolton, just opposite Queens Park. Our surgery is owned by Vet Stuart Edwards, assisted by our nursing team and our Practice Manager.  You can find more information about our staff on our Meet The Team page.

There has been a veterinary surgery on the premises here for over 50 years, with previous owner Mr Barton and later Mr Clare. Stuart took over Queens Park in 2006, and has gotten to know quite a lot of you really well over the years. Stuart qualified as a Vet in 1997, so has over 25 years experience in practice, mostly with dogs, cats and small furries such as rabbits and guinea pigs.

Our aim at Queens Park is to be the local friendly vets to turn to when your pet needs help. We promise to provide you with the knowledge and treatment options to make the best decisions about your pets health and lifestyle. We are dedicating to ensuring that your pet receives the highest quality of veterinary care. At all times we will work with you to create treatment plans both for preventative treatment, and when your pet is unwell or has a medical condition. Our surgery is well equipped to treat your pets, with the usual things you’d expect in a vets.

We are able to run our surgery in the way that directly benefits you and your pets as we are privately owned, and not part of a corporation or ‘chain’. We do not have a head office dictating how we look after our patients, that decision and responsibility lies firmly with our Vet, as we believe it should.

If  you have any questions, or would like to pop in and meet us, please get in touch with our Practice Manager (Nikki) on 01204 525066 who will be able to help.

Services

Here at Queens Park Veterinary Surgery we can offer many services for you and your pet, including vet and nurse consultations, vaccinations, puppy/kitten clinics and surgery. Surgery ranges from routine neutering through to lump removals, dental surgery and diagnostic x-rays. If we cannot treat your pet here, we will recommend referral to a specialist, which we can organise for you.

We are lucky to have in-house blood machines which allows us to run an assortment of blood tests and receive the results almost straight away. This means that we can diagnose your unwell pet successfully, and treat them quickly. It is also helpful in allowing us to ascertain a patient’s suitability for surgery before the procedure. For some tests, we do need to send samples away to the laboratory for testing. In this case we can expect to receive results within a few days. Your vet or nurse will discuss this with you at your appointment.

Please see below for details of the services that we offer. Click ‘Read More’ to find out more about each individual service.

If you need any further information about anything that we offer please get in touch either by phone on 01204 525066 or through our Contact Us form. All of our staff are experienced and trained to provide advice over the phone and in person.

Veterinary Consults

At Queens Park Veterinary Surgery we are proud to offer each patient a 15 minute appointment for a veterinary consult. This is so you can be sure that they have received a thorough check, and that all your questions or concerns have been dealt with during your visit. If your pet has a complex case we are happy to provide a double appointment at no extra cost. Please let us know if you think that this is the case. We run 3 surgeries every weekday to cater for all our clients’ needs, including running our last surgery until 7.00pm. We work on an appointment system to give our clients and patients the time they deserve for their individual needs, and value for money.

For consultation prices please click here. If your pet is part of our Healthy Pets Plan, their consultation is free of charge. See more on the Healthy Pets Plan here.

For some clients, weekends are the best time to bring their pet for routine visits. We are open every Saturday from 8.30am until 12 noon for an appointment with the vet or nurse, or to collect food or prescriptions.

We aim to be flexible and convenient for you, our client. If you have a preferred day, time, vet or nurse please mention it when you contact us.

Vaccinations

Whether it’s a new puppy or kitten or an older pet we always recommend that vaccinations are kept up to date, usually annually.

Our annual vaccinations are much more than just an injection for your pet. Whilst the injection and associated immunity is obviously important, all our booster vaccinations include a 15-minute consultation with a veterinary surgeon, and a full ‘MOT’ style health check for your pet. Our vets are happy to use this time to clip your pet’s nails, check/empty anal sacs and answer any questions at all that you might have relating to your pet including training, behaviour, diets and parasites.

What we vaccinate against:

Dogs: Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvovirus, Leptospirosis, Parainfluenza and Bordatella (Kennel Cough)

Cats: Cat Flu (Herpes and Calicivirus), Infectious Enteritis (Panleucopaenia) and Feline Leukaemia

Rabbits: Rabbit Haemorrhagic Disease and Myxomatosis

Some of the diseases we vaccinate against can be treated with medication if contracted, however some can be fatal, particularly in young animals and rabbits. If you are concerned about vaccinations then please speak to our experienced staff who can put your mind at rest.

For travelling pets, we are able to vaccinate against Rabies and Leishmaniasis. Please ask us for more information on these vaccinations.

Price List

Whilst we believe that good veterinary care shouldn’t be about money, we do appreciate that sometimes your pet may need unexpected medical attention. We are honest and upfront about any fees that will be incurred during treatment. Our vets are happy to provide accurate estimates for any treatment, which we try our best to stick to. If your pet is admitted by us, we will inform you of any additional cost on top of estimate before we carry it out. Please feel free to contact us at any time to enquire about our prices. We are happy to answer any questions you may have.

Please see below for prices, correct as of March 2023. We are happy to provide estimates for surgery and diagnostic tests. For more specific prices please contact the surgery in the first instance. If your pet is a member of our Healthy Pets Plan you will receive 10% off all of our prices, as well as free consultations.

We are happy to Direct Claim with Petplan insurance, and other companies by prior agreement. If you are struggling to afford the cost of treatment for your pet, please do talk to us, as we might be able to help.
