Dog Walking

Group Walks

Pawsitively Purrfect  offers group walks of 60 minutes.  With travel time dogs are usually out of the house for between 1½ to 2 hours, depending on the location of our walk that day.

We vary the walk’s location as much as possible to ensure the dogs never get bored!

Here in Northumberland we are lucky to have many beautiful locations including parks and beaches we can visit.

Benefits of group walks

Group walks give your dog(s) a chance to interact with other dogs, and  burn more energy off as they run around and chase and play with each other.

We will ensure that your dog is walked in a group which suits his/her needs. Dogs are closely supervised while mixing with other dogs to ensure all dogs are happy and enjoying their walks.

All dogs are introduced to other dogs before taking part in group walks to ensure your pet gets on with their walking buddies.

No more than six dogs are walked together at any one time.  This is  for the dogs’ safety and comfort.

Solo walks

Pawsitively Purrfect  offers solo dog walks where your dog(s) is walked alone.

Ideal for dogs that or nervous of other dogs or do get along with other dogs and prefer to go it alone.

Also perfect for older or younger dogs that can not walk for an hour and for those that are recovering from illness or surgery.

Bitches in season can not be walked. We are happy to visit bitches in season for toilet breaks for the duration of their season.

After every walk, we ensure your dogs are cleaned and dried to the best of our ability, but we can not get them completely dry and clean.

We will provide fresh water and ensure they are happy and well before we leave them at your home.

No dog is let off lead without their owner’s written consent and signed disclaimer form. If you are happy for your dog(s) to be let off lead they will initially be walked on a long line to ensure good bond with myself and adequate recall. If they can not be left safely off lead, a long line/flexi lead can be used.  We only allow dogs off lead in areas we deem to be safe and suitable and are away from roads and livestock.

Training

One to One Training For Older Dogs

We understand that not all dogs enjoy training in a class environment.  They may find it too exciting, too overwhelming, too distracting or they could lack confidence or suffer from anxiety, all of which means they will find it difficult to learn.  There are also some training problems that can be harder to address in a group setting and are better suited to one on one personal training.

We also understand that many people have to work shifts, which can make attending a class on a regular set day and time can be difficult.

In these circumstances, our private one to one lessons are ideal, as we can arrange a time and a day to suit you and your dog.

These sessions can be at your home in your garden, in a local park, or we can arrange access to a secure, private field.

Benefits of Private Lessons

Private lessons are tailored to you and your dog/s requirements, to work on issues that you need help with.  These lessons can cover general obedience and training such as

  • sit
  • stay
  • leave
  • settle
  • recall
  • loose leash walking
  • house and crate training

One to One Training For Puppies

These one to one sessions are designed to get your puppy off to the best start possible!

It is never too early to start training your puppy and it is vitally important to ensure a well-rounded dog that puppies are exposed to a wide variety of people, places and sounds between birth & 16 weeks.

You should definitely NOT wait until their vaccinations are complete and the puppy can attend training classes, as many unwanted behaviours and bad habits can be created and picked up between bringing your puppy home and starting classes.  Prevention is much better than cure and it is far better to train your puppy correctly from day one and avoid problems, rather than have to re-train behaviours and break bad habits later on.

These one to one sessions are held at your own home and cover the most common topics that owners need help with, such as

  • Puppy biting
  • House and crate training
  • Socialising and habituating your puppy
  • Mental enrichment and Keeping puppies entertained

We will also show you how to begin teaching your puppy

  • Responding to its name
  • Sit
  • How to accept handling
  • How to settle
  • Recall
  • Leave objects they shouldn’t have
  • Getting used to a collar and lead
  • Walk nicely on the lead without pulling

We will listen to what concerns you have with your dog’s training, answer your questions and give you straightforward and practical solutions to teach your dog. We will show you how to improve and strengthen your bond with your dog, with reward-based, positive reinforcement training using treats, toys, play and praise in order to increase the frequency of the behaviours we want.

These methods ensure that your dog thoroughly enjoys learning, and will also make him more responsive and attentive and in turn more obedient.

All sessions also include email support and information handouts so you can continue to work with your dog in your own time.
