WELCOME

There’s much to see here. So, take your time, look around, and learn all there is to know about us. We hope you enjoy our site and take a moment to drop us an email!

WHO ARE WE?

Paws for Thought is run by me, Nathalie, and my husband Neil. We have been together for 18 years and share a mutual love for dogs and our children, of course. We have both always had dogs in our lives, whether as children, adults or during our 18 years marriage.

We are not dog walkers, which is a common misconception, our Doggy Day Care service is not a walking service, it is predominantly a socialisation experience for your puppy/dog. We do provide Home Dog Boarding but this is for our doggy day care clients only.

OUR EXPERIENCE

Since starting Paws for Thought in October 2018, we have experience with small, medium and large dogs & puppies, ranging from Yorkshire Terriers to German Shepherds and have dealt with a variety of conditions, such as stress anxiety, delicate tummies to arthritis and heart murmurs, separation fears, puppies & dogs that need socialisation and company and dogs that simply need a cuddle, rather than be home alone.

We have been very lucky to be trusted by some wonderful owners and are so glad we made the decision to open our home up to them.

OUR PETS

We currently have a 7-year-old Miniature Yorkshire Terrier called Bourbon, a Ragdoll cat called Tigger or ‘Tiggs’, he loves socialising with dogs and blends in very well with them – having even managed to win the hearts of dogs previously labelled as ‘cat aggressive’.

Tigger often potters around the garden, allowing the dogs to approach him, have a sniff and realise that he is no threat to them and we find the dogs anxiety over cats and getting to them dramatically reduces, due to Tigger’s kind help and support! He’s a keeper!!

We also have two kittens called Coco & Fifa and they are slowly settling into Paws Family Life!

HOW WE GOT STARTED

Being home full time, it made sense to offer a doggy day care service, as it would give pet owners peace of mind for their pet’s welfare as well as continuing to allow us time with our own pets and children. We offer our extended ‘Paws Family’ lots of love, time, attention and a family atmosphere to enjoy, whilst their owners are away at work or on holiday.

SERVICES

Below is a list of all our services, session times and pricing, we do not hide anything from clients and like to be as open and honest as possible…

DOGGY DAY CARE

We provide doggy day care within our home for a maximum of 6 dogs. We offer a variety of options for you and your dog/s to hopefully give you plenty of choice for what you require.

The dogs have an opportunity to play, socialise, get some well needed and well deserved human interaction and ensure they are mentally and physically stimulated throughout their day. For puppies, we also encourage training skills, from the basic ‘sit’ ‘paw’ etc to making them wait for meals, fetching and leaving when playing and promote those all important social skills with gentle boundaries. We also ensure they have time separate from us and others, within the same space, just to help with separation anxiety and stress.

Weekend Doggy Day Care is available upon request between the hours of 10:00 and 18:00, we ask that you book a minimum of 3 hours and a week in advance if possible.

We also offer a pet taxi service if required, for an additional but small fee and is set for certain times of the morning, afternoon and evening to work around our session times.

HOME BOARDING

Home dog boarding is a service we offer exclusively to our long term doggy day care clients.  It can be anything from a weekend stay, Friday to Sunday or Friday to Monday, right up to 3 or 4 weeks at a time.

Please be aware that we do NOT accept any dogs for boarding, unless they have been with Paws for at least 3-6 months (depending on the individual dog/puppy’s personality and needs), and 1 -2 overnight stay’s before boarding is considered. We have had instances where clients have used us for day care, in order to board their dog for a week’s boarding and then not been in contact with us again afterwards, which is sadly not what we are offering. Boarding is an additional service for regular clients, that have been with Paws for some time, so they are assured their dog is staying somewhere they know and are familiar with, whilst their owners are away. If a client uses our doggy day care service purely to board their dog and then not use us regularly afterwards, please be assured, their dog will not be offered the option of boarding again in the future. This is because we could go months without seeing the dog and as we have learned, the stress and uncertainty is too much for them and it is unfair on them and us and abuses our exclusive offer.

We do provide longer term boarding in special circumstances, with an affordable payment plan, just contact us directly for more information.

Pricing

£38.00 – £45.00 per 24hrs depending on breed, all Puppies charged at £40.00 regardless of breed.

SPECIAL OVERNIGHT BOARDING

This service is mainly offered for new doggy day care clients, that potentially need to board with us at some point in the future. It is an excellent way to see how they cope, boarding away from home.

We also find this service is used a lot at weekends, if availability, to help couples have a night out or attend a family event all together, without worrying about leaving their dog/puppy for too long.

It is from 18:00-10:00, which seems to work well for owners and their needs, although we have been known to adapt the timing by an hour either side to accommodate a special occasion.

Pricing

£40.00 For Initial Trial Overnight Session

£28.00 Per Night Thereafter

FRIENDSHIPS & BONDS

It is so important for dogs to have close bonds and friendships outside the home, away from their families, to ensure they have confidence and feel secure. It allows them freedom to explore new surroundings and make exciting new discoveries and all within a safe environment and with their doggy friends!

WAITING LIST FOR PAWS…

PATIENCE IS A VIRTUE!

Since we opened up Paws, many of our clients have joined us from an early age, as young as 12-14 weeks old, and now, nearly 3 or 4 or more years on, they have stayed with us for their doggy day care and boarding needs. This, for us, is wonderful and we are very grateful to our clients and their owners for trusting us and remaining loyal to Paws for such a long time.

However, it does mean that spaces at Paws For Thought do not come up very often, and when they do, they are in high demand! Therefore, we do hold a waiting list for puppies, dogs and elderly dogs if required, and monitor this waiting list on a regular basis, to ensure we can help as many dogs as possible and as soon as possible.

It may be because you need a certain day of the week or just a morning, not a full day and sometimes we may have a space, but not the right space for your dogs needs.

So, you can email Paws initially and if we cannot provide what you are looking for straight away, you can request to be added to our waiting list with a special request for your puppy/dog. Then, as soon as we can assist you, we will naturally be in touch…

We also like to group puppies and dogs together, based on their personality and specific enjoyment traits when here. Some dogs are soppy and affectionate and just want to be loved, praised and kept company, others are very playful and have a lot of energy and need to be around similar minded dogs, that also want to interact and play. There would be no point putting a hyperactive Boxer with 4 quiet tempered dogs, that want to chill out and mooch about the garden etc and then the Boxer is running around trying to entice the others to play, when they just don’t want to. That Boxer would have a miserable experience and we do not want that.

So, we wouldn’t contact you and offer you a space that wouldn’t work for your dog/puppy just to fill the space, we would look for the right fit for that space, based on need and personality. This means we ensure the dog/puppy has the best experience whilst here and we feel better knowing they are living their best life enjoying Paws for what it is!
