About Us

Hi, my name is Gillian Atkins.

I was born in Greenock and have stayed in the area all my life, attending Gourock primary, Gourock High and James Watt college.

I volunteer for the ALFI group which helps support people within the community learn newskills. I also coach a football team for over 5 year olds, which is great fun!

When my two boys Logan and Declan started school full time, I began looking for work in the area and struggled to find a conventional job that allowed me to be able to pick them up after school. I needed something flexible.

When you consider swimming lessons, Beavers/Cubs, Football training and also my own volunteer work, you can see how this would be challenging to most employers.

Everyone has these types of commitments I know, I just really wanted something that fitted in.

It was my partner Iain that suggested dog walking! He by chance happened to see a dog walkers van driving through Manchester. He knows only too well how much I love animals.

I have been extremely fortunate to have had dogs around me from as far back as I can remember.

It’s funny how sometimes the most obvious job for everyone can be literally staring them in the face.

Since starting Mighty Pawz, I have never looked back. It has all worked out perfectly and I feel that I’m one of the lucky ones doing exactly what I love.

Dog Walking

We are very lucky to have the beautiful Muirshiel regional park here on our doorstep. Plenty of places too sniff.

Some of the other places I enjoy walking dogs include Whiteless Moor, Everton Forest or Lunderston beach the list goes on.

All the dogs in my care are walked on lead to begin with; regular leads at first then flexi leads can be used until they bond with me and with the other dogs.

This can take time depending on how well socialized they have been with other dogs.

It will only be once the dog can be fully trusted in my care that they will go off lead and only with your permission.

I transport the dogs around using my own spacious family car, there is no advertising on the car as I find my customers prefer it that way.

The car is fully insured for transporting dogs and everything has been done to make it as confortable for them as possible. They particularly enjoy looking out of the windows!

Firstly give me a call, text or use the online Contact form.

We arrange a time for me to come to your home, this allows me to meet you and your dog in a familiar environment.

There we can discuss any requirements you or your dog may have and answer any questions.

Between us we then create a flexible plan to suite you.

I will then collect your dog from your home.

Fun group or solo walks are available throughout the day.

Dogs travel safely in my own family car.

Dogs are walked at safe and appropriate locations.

Paws will be cleaned and dried prior to being returned to your home.

Services & Pricing

GROUP WALKS

1 hour
£9.00 per dog

Dogs are pack animals by nature and really do enjoy socializing with other dogs.

The group walks give your dog the opportunity to play, exercise, explore a variety of locations and have lots of fun within a small group.

On these walks I help teach your dog how to socialize within a group and give them basic training.

Safety is paramount and as such all dogs in my care will be assessed by me during their initial Solo walks, before being introduced safely and gradually to one another. I select which dogs are suited to walk together, depending on size, age, energy levels and temperament.

All the dogs will be walked in a group for a full hour no matter what the weather. They will be out a little longer due to pick ups and drops offs.

SOLO WALKS

40 minutes
£9.00 per dog

Solo walks can be the best option for young, old, nervous dogs or if you would just prefer that your dog is not walked as part of a group.

The solo walks are also used in the beginning for dogs that need a little bit of socialisation before being integrated into a group walk.

PET FEEDING

I can also provide daily visits to your pets whilst you are away on holiday.

Together we can sit down and put together a tailored plan for their care and comfort.
