About us

Hello, my name is Emma Skillings and I own Kelsall Pet & Home Care.

I live in Oscroft with my husband Paul, our son, two cats, two dogs and chickens (when Mr Fox is kept at bay!).

Following a childhood in Chester, I got my degree at the University of Leicester and worked in professional services in Manchester for 15 years. In 2013 I moved back to my hometown and in 2016 I took over Kelsall Pet & Home Care from Lynne & Iain McCracken. It was quite simply my dream job and I’ve not looked back since!

With a passion for animals, especially cats, I continue to feel blessed that I get to spend my days in the company of such loveable little souls.

Why me?

The service I provide to the cats, small animals and home owners of Kelsall, Tarvin and the surrounding villages is one of reliability, professionalism and care.

I know how much I worry about my own pets when I’m on holiday and how important it is to find a sitter who genuinely cares about their wellbeing.

In using me, you’ll be getting a catsitter who is DBS checked, can provide references from happy customers and has specialist pet care insurance. However, no amount of checks and references can beat the first impressions you and your cat have of me when we meet.

Cat sitting

Cats are homebodies by nature and a change of territory to a cattery can be a stressful experience. Having a professional catsitter, such as myself, visit your cat in their own space is the least disruptive holiday care option for them.

Every cat is unique, some like a lot of attention and others want to be left in peace. I take time to get to know their personality and habits.

In the first instance I’ll find out everything I can from their owners and seeing the cat at home with their family around them. During my first few visits by carefully observing their body language, I let them tell me how they want me to spend time with them. This is how I build relationships with the cats in my care and by taking time to understand them, it has also helped me detect illness and stress in the past and enabled me to act upon it straight away.

How I interact with your cat will depend on my assessment of them. However, here is a list of the basic tasks you can expect me to do as standard:

  • Provide fresh food and water in clean bowls
  • Clear litter trays and dispose responsibly in a biodegradable bag
  • Administer medication
  • Provide regular updates by text, WhatsApp or email
  • Undertake light household tasks such as putting bins out, gathering post, opening/closing curtains, switching lights on/off and watering garden.

Small animal sitting

I also look after other small animals including rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters, gerbils, ferrets, fish, birds, frogs, tortoises and chickens.

As long as your pet can be left at home alone and you can tell me what they need, I can visit them as I would a cat.

As with my cat sitting services, her is a list of basic tasks you can expect me to complete during my visits:

  • Provide fresh food and water in clean bowls
  • Clear waste and dispose responsibly in a biodegradable bag
  • Administer medication
  • Provide regular updates by text, WhatsApp or email
  • Undertake light household tasks such as putting bins out, gathering post, opening/closing curtains, switching lights on/off and watering garden.

House sitting

If you don’t have pets but would like someone to keep a check on your home and garden whilst you’re away, I also offer a house sitting service.

Here are some of the things a holiday visit might include:

  • Collect post and parcels
  • Put wheelie bins out for emptying
  • Water house plants
  • Water garden
  • Switch on lights
  • Open / close curtains
