Pennie Clayton founded the Horse and Hound School which provides a range of services throughout Kent, Essex, Surrey, Sussex and South East London.
Pennie has always been crazy about animals and feels lucky to have spent her life working with them. She has worked extensively with dogs and horses for many years and loves helping owners and riders gain insight into their animals. Welfare is at the forefront of Pennie’s work and she often works with rescue organisations, as well as rescuing animals herself.
Pennie originally trained as a riding instructor and continues to attend clinics with well known trainers such as Charles de Knuffy and Stephen Clarke. She believes consideration of the horse’s experience should be at the heart of all equine activities. She encourages her students to develop positive relationships with horses built on trust and communication.Â
Pennie later studied dog behaviour which resulted in her expanding her business. She completed a two year dog behaviour course with well-known trainer Sheila Harper (IDTS) and attained an OCN Level 3 Dog Behaviour Certificate. She attends conferences and workshops regularly to ensure her knowledge stays current, and has learnt from esteemed international experts such as Turid Rugaas and Anne Lill Kvam.
Pennie is passionate about sighthounds, and is happiest when spending time with her rescue lurchers and greyhounds, or out riding.
HORSES
Pennie has been working with horses all her life, and is a freelance coach and trainer (BHS Int Teach ) who specialises in dressage and flatwork. She has trained horses of all types and breeds and taught riders from beginners to advanced. She was a long term member of the TTT Trust which heavily influenced her coaching and teaching skills and she was  inspired by taking part in clinics with Charles de Kunffy who is famous for teaching his students using motivational, inspiring and thought provoking methods.Â
Pennie is passionate about helping both horses and riders to learn, and specialises in helping riders to build or re-build their confidence, by helping to create a strong partnership with their horse.
Her training isn’t about shortcuts, gadgets or quick fixes. Instead she focuses on teaching the rider to adopt an effective seat, aiding the horse correctly, and teaching riders how their horses respond to consistent and thoughtful riding.
This allows horses to become supple, balanced and confident in their riders, instilling self-carriage and helping riders to achieve their goals.
Pennie can help with:
training and help for riders of all levels, across Kent, Essex, Surrey and Sussex
specialised dressage and flatwork training
pole work and jumping lessons
preparation for BHS exams
preparation for tests and/or competitive event
specialising in helping riders that have lost their confidence and helping horses to achieve better balance
