Geoff Shore Gundog Training

Welcome to my website, my name is Geoff Shore, I am a gundog trainer in the Bristol area, and have taught people to train gundogs since 1996. I specialise in training working Spaniels and Labrador Retrievers, although HPR training is becoming a larger part of my routine due to the popularity of Vizlas, Weimaraners and German Shorthaired Pointers.

With my experience I am able to educate gundog handlers to handle their gundog in the right way at all levels and age stages, from early puppyhood right up to field trial standard.

It is quite likely with the rise in popularity of Springers, Cockers and Labradors as pet dogs that you have no interest in shooting or field trial competetion, but that will not stop you wanting an obedient dog. I am very happy to help you train your pet gundog to the standard you require. It is just a matter of learning the basic skills and applying them in the correct way.

Gundog training is very addictive and you may well find that in a short time what you thought was a course of training sessions could be life changing. I am very keen to give newcomers a stepping stone into the world of working gundogs.

Please feel free to give me a call to discuss your gundog training requirements and I will do my utmost to assist. You can contact me on my mobile number 07974593665 or email geoff@geoffshoregundogs.com

Training

I offer one to one, group, and residential gundog training in the Bristol area. Follow the links to find the right lesson for you. All have their individual advantages. Please contact me to discuss the best option for you. Mob:07974593665 or email geoff@geoffshoregundogs.com

The majority of people want the best results with the dog they have. All dog handlers can have training problems and there is no such thing as the perfect dog. I will advise you how to overcome these problems and more importantly how to stop them creeping into your training routine in the first place.

My main aim is to teach you to understand the “how” and “why” of dog training. Without these skills you will not be able to read your dog and react accordingly on your day to day routine.

Customer care is top of my priorities and you will be made to feel very comfortable during my lessons whether you opt for an individual lesson or a group lesson. I will always put your requirements first and you will find me very patient and understanding. I have a good client base of handlers who respect and trust my opinions.

I understand and respect that you may not be interested in field sports at all and that the dog you are training may never see the shooting field. Please don’t think that means I won’t be interested in helping you. A massive proportion of my business is from the pet gundog owner. I understand that you want to have a well behaved dog and may have no intention of working him, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

One To One

One to One lessons are the very best way to maximise your potential as a dog trainer.

The personal approach is an ideal way of addressing particular problems or ensuring that your lessons are totally distraction free.

Together we will devise a training programme that is as unique as your needs.

Group

Group lessons are the perfect way to socialise your dog whilst maintaining a high level of control.

The classes are a more cost-effective way of training your gundog. They also give the benefit of learning from other people and their dogs.

I run training classes for all ages and abilities. After an initial lesson or consultation I will place you with a class that is perfect for your ability and character.

The opportunity to meet like-minded people and forge new relationships is an added bonus. The group lessons have a really friendly atmosphere where the whole class encourage each other’s progress.

Residential

If you would like a fully trained gundog, but have not got the time to train it, the residential training option could well be the route for you.

I will take your dog in and train him to your requirements.

During the process I will always be available to discuss your dog’s progress.

On completion I offer a hand over period where you can learn how best to handle and maintain your fully trained dog.

Shoot Over Training Days

This service will suit the gundog handler that has completed his training and is now ready to give his gundog experience in a controlled shooting environment. The day can be tailored to suit your needs and is suitable for for all levels of gundog handler.

The introduction to a real shooting situation, whether walked up or driven is critical. The pressure on the handler is immense at this stage of your training and your gundog will sense that you are nervous, sometimes taking advantage of that situation and rendering months of preparation wasted.

I aim to make this apparent massive step painless. If you’ve trained with me you will be prepared for it, so there shouldn’t be anything to worry about, but that’s easy for me to say. I will help you overcome your nerves and make your gundog’s first experience a positive one.

For Sale

Whether you want a field trial champion, a great shooting dog, a family pet or a country companion, one of the most influential factors is breeding. It is so important to buy the best you can. Good quality breeding that has intelligence from working stock will make training so much easier.

I hold the Kennel Club affix of “Hestmoor” and sometimes have pups for sale of my own breeding. I use bloodlines that compliment my own beliefs regarding gundog conformation, style and hunting ability. Because I only breed if I need a pup for myself, this is only ever occasionally. Nevertheless, I often have part trained and fully trained labradors and spaniels for sale.
