At Elite Pet Care we offer you a professional, caring, reliable service in the West Lothian area.
Established in 2011, initially as a dog walking business; we have been providing our customers with an excellent service and the peace of mind that their dogs are being given the best possible care and attention at all times.
Our dog and puppy training sessions are run purely on a 1-2-1 basis. We realise that classroom environments are not for everyone, which is why we offer 121 sessions at the client’s own home or nearby area. The beauty of these sessions are that we are able to work in an environment that your dog can learn best, and also work in any areas that you are having particular problems in. Each session is tailored specifically to the issues that you are having and scheduled at a time of day that suits you and your dog best.Â
My name is Marion Heggie and my greatest passion in life is my love of animals. I was born and brought up on a farm in Ayrshire and my whole life has been about animals, great and small. I love the great outdoors, the countryside, and everything that it brings. And today I’m extremely lucky to share my life with my 9 year old cockapoo, Benji, who I adopted 5 years ago.
I set up Elite Pet Care in 2011 and it very quickly became a busy dog walking and pet sitting business. Over the years I came across lots of people who were struggling with their dog’s behaviour and training issues. This fuelled my passion to become a dog trainer. I then went on to gain my Canine Coaching Diploma and become a Certified Canine Coach.
In the dog training world the learning never stops, which is why I take my continuous professional development very seriously, studying the best science based courses with the likes of Canine Principles and The School of Canine Science; as well as regularly attending training seminars and webinars. I am constantly committed to furthering my own knowledge in order to do the very best for my customers. I am also a member of the Pet Professional Guild of the British Isles, an organisation who advocates only force free training.
At Elite Pet Care our dog walking is much more than just a walk! We take out a maximum of 5 dogs together on our group walks, ensuring that they are all suitably matched. Dogs have lots of fun on our walks, not only do they enjoy exploring their surroundings and having a run around; they also have fun working on that all important recall, as well as some focus and engagement and appropriate play. Being a dog trainer, I am also very aware of dog body language and canine behaviour, so you can be assured that your dog is always in good hands.
Dogs with a good recall will enjoy off lead walks with us, while those still working on their recall will still enjoy the freedom, albeit on a long training line. As always, safety is paramount. We take our pups and adolescent dogs out with older sensible dogs, which is the perfect way of helping them learn the ropes. Please note that young pups will have walks that consist of part walking and part watching in the puppy sling. This is an ideal way to help to socialise your puppy from a young age, while also making sure we look after their little joints and growing bones.
Our walks last around 45 mins, although dogs are generally out for longer as we pick up and drop off their dog pals. We keep the areas that we cover fairly small so that dogs are not in the van for a long period of time, although we find that dogs do tend to love the van, which is air conditioned with individual custom-built crates and comfortable vet bedding, all ensuring that your dog travels comfortably and safely.
Your furry friend will always be given a good rub down after they have been out. This means that they are nice and dry after those wet days out, ensuring that they don’t leave a trail of muddy paws throughout your house. They will then be settled back in, making sure that they have plenty of fresh water, before we leave your house safely locked up.
We offer a free initial consultation for our dog walking service, which gives us the chance to meet and discuss your needs and requirements.
We appreciate that classroom environments are not for everyone (dogs and their humans), so we are delighted to offer 121 training sessions at your home (or in a location close to your home). The beauty of these sessions are that we are able to work in an environment where your dog is able to learn best. It also allows us to work in the actual areas that you are having particular problems in with your dog’s behaviour, whether that be in the home or out on your walks. The added benefit of 121 training is that we will schedule your sessions on a day and at a time suits you best.
As a member of the Pet Professional Guild, which advocates force-free training, you can be assured that our training methods are science based and free from coercion.
Prior to your training session we will ask you to complete a detailed consultation form which will enable us to provide you with the best training possible for the needs of you and your dog. After each session you will be emailed follow up notes on everything that we have covered during our session.
Our popular Puppy Training Package consists of lots of advice for puppy parents about the things that they generally struggle with in the early puppy days. Issues such as puppy biting and chewing, toilet training, appropriate socialisation, enrichment and lots more. This is then followed up with 4 x 45 minute 121 training sessions, where we will work on everything you need to start your puppy off on the right paw to becoming a well-mannered dog. After each session you will receive detailed notes on everything that we covered in our session.
Often when our puppies reach the adolescent stage of their development (anywhere between 5 months to 24 months) and those hormones kick in, they seem to forget everything that they have ever learned. This can sometimes be a challenging time in your dog’s development. Our adolescent training can help you through this and keep you on track.
The adolescent training package is also a perfect follow on from the puppy package to bring your training up to the next level.
If the answer to any of these is ‘Yes’, then this is the ideal training for you. These sessions are tailored to your individual needs, and you will be provided with full training notes after each session to recap on everything you have learned and to keep you on track.
We offer a FREE initial consultation to discuss your dog walking requirements.
