About Derrings Kennels

Here at our dog boarding kennel we are all very passionate about dogs, I myself have owned and trained dogs for over 35 years! We currently have 2 gun dogs that live in our kennels! Pip Pop & Scarlett my 2 Flatcoats.

The boarding kennels and grooming parlour services give us the opportunity to meet a huge range of dog breeds, from Schipperke’s (Belgian barge dogs) to Irish Wolf Hounds and Entlebucher Sennenhund’s (swiss cart dogs) to Newfoundlands. The list goes on !

After a long search for the right property, I finally found ‘New Derrings Farm’ and knew straight away it was perfect for a small exclusive dog boarding kennel.

In 2002, Derrings Kennels was established. This wasn’t and still isn’t a diversification from another business. Looking after dogs is what we specialise in and enjoy doing all day, every day.

Our Shop

Our onsite shop opened in 2007 and has been a great spin-off to the boarding kennels because many people buy from us rather than hauling their own. We stock a good range of food, toys, beds, dog grooming accessories, leads etc… at competitive prices. For example a few of the brands we stock are Wagg, Sneyds Wonderdog, Supadog and James Wellbeloved. We also keep stocked up with a large range of treats such as pigs ears, bonios and lots of rawhides.

Our Dog Kennel Accommodation

Our boarding kennels have a very homely feel about them, they are bright and airy with colour and calmness at every corner. With flowers around the yards, music playing in every room, they are as close to your dogs home environment as possible.

We often have natural sprigs of Lavender, Rosemary & Thyme in the rooms to aid calmness, we use pet safe essential oil diffusers too when needed.

The superb traditional brick buildings have slate roofs, which are the very best in summer to keep each room cool, assisted by fans to keep the air quality clean and flowing, which we think is very important.

We also have 3 other yards which accommodate large and small dogs alike, we have different areas for different styles of dogs. We always have a room to suit your furry friend.

Our Stable Yard has high doors and windows that suit guarding style dogs, the less they can see the more settled they are! And don’t feel like they have to be on duty. This keeps them happy and content.

Our Back Field kennels are our larger area of kennels which suit more confident dogs. Most suited for dogs that like to going out in a big group for off lead fun and play. This is for the wild ones!!

Our Field kennels are more suited for our shy, senior or just quiet guests… ideal as they are right next to the paddocks and garden area.

Alternatively each room has insulation in both the floors and ceilings with biomass central heating. This renewable energy system gives us heat 24hrs a day with hot water on constant demand for kennel cleaning. Our rooms are always at least 18 degrees even in the grip of winter. No matter how cold or wet the weather is outside, the kennels are always warm and cosy.

One of the reasons the local vets in and around Easingwold use and recommend us is that most of our kennels are laid out in a court yard style. This gives us a selection of different size rooms with only up to 4 kennels in most rooms. We have kennels to suit every breed and family size.

  • Biomass central heated accommodation
  • Only up to 4 kennels in most rooms, thus keeping stress levels very low (no loud barking here!)
  • Most of the dog kennels do not look onto one another, therefore dogs cannot shout at each other.
  • Air quality is very good and the rooms never smell ‘doggie’.
  • Most kennels are exited straight out into the yard.
  • The floors and walls are smooth with no corners, therefore washing out is easy and effective, no bacteria build up in our luxury rooms!
  • Radios in each room keep your pet company
  • No outside runs – Most of our guests are house dogs. Our dog kennels are as close to a home as possible. The dogs treat the kennels as a house and use the field as a garden.
  • Opening times to suit the dogs routine. If we were open all day the dogs wouldn’t have chance to relax and snooze during the day as most do at home.
  • Choice of 3 paddocks and sand area for off lead exercise in group play or one to one attention all the year no matter what the weather.
  • Friendly knowledgeable dog people at Derrings.

I have boarded my dog, Lacey, at Derrings Kennels recently. Lacey is a very special dog, with several medical problems

Most Boarding establishments charge a whole day for both the day of arrival and collection, irrespective of what time you drop off or collect your dog.

We operate a half daily charging system.

When a price per day is quoted this represents a working day as follows;

1. A morning Session 8:30am – 10:30am which will represent a half daily charge.

2. An afternoon Session 4:00pm – 5:45pm (weekends 3:00pm – 4:45pm) which will represent a further half daily charge

Or any combination of the above, e.g. an afternoon & a morning, or a morning & an afternoon.

Therefore if a dog is dropped off during one morning session and collected during the morning session of the following day, this will represent a charge of a day and a half (2 mornings, 1 afternoon)

If a dog is dropped off during the morning of one day and collected during the afternoon of the next, this will represent a total charge of 2 days (2 mornings, 2 afternoons).

Cancellation Policy

We reserve the right to charge the dates and times originally booked when cancelled or adjusted within 7 days of the start date.

Please note this is only due to the high demand of limited places available.

A vets opinion!

Alastair Johnson BVMS cert MA MRCVS was the first vet to start using us for his own dogs, after showing Alastair around our kennels for half an hour and explaining how dogs like routine and continuity, he went on to tell me he was a veterinary partner at Minster vets and understood how dogs think! I didn’t feel silly, much!!

One of Alastair’s questions about Derrings was how many people look after how many dogs and How many walks do they have and how long? And most importantly your charges? I explained what we offered and his reply was ‘Hmmm that’s about right’.

I asked him what he meant? He explained that if I offered 2 hour walks 4 times a day for a cheap rate then I obviously would be stretching the truth, and said what I offered was good value and truthful.
