About Us

As a RCVS accredited practice, we are dedicated to providing an excellent service for all animals in our care. We actively promote preventative healthcare to help your much-loved pet remain happy and healthy. We provide our own 24 hour emergency service to all of our patients and have a comprehensive range of diagnostic equipment, allowing us to examine and diagnose conditions quickly. From routine vaccinations to major surgery, our team are fully committed to providing the expert veterinary care your pet deserves.

Why Choose Us?

Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) Accredited Practice with Highly Skilled Vets and Nurses

As an RCVS accredited practice, we are inspected every four years to ensure that we offer the highest standards of clinical services and care.

We also have a number of Vets with further certificates in small animal surgery and equine practice. Certificates are awarded for advanced knowledge, skills and overall expertise in these areas of special interest. We are a training practice for Veterinary Nurses and we also provide placements for work experience and Veterinary students.

Investment in the Latest Equipment

We offer a range of up to date clinical services including digital radiography, ultrasound, ECG, blood pressure, endoscopy, dentistry, CT and an in-house laboratory enabling a quick turnaround for test results. Our operating theatre is complete with the latest anaesthesia monitoring equipment and we are able to offer keyhole surgery to some patients for specific conditions. Key hole surgery has the benefit of being minimally invasive, less painful and results in faster recovery times; our Vets are specially trained to provide this service.

Specialist Visiting Veterinary Surgeons

We have three specialist Vets that visit our surgery to perform orthopaedic, ophthalmic and cardiology procedures. Our cardiology team operate under Cedar Referrals. This enables us to offer on-site specialist consultations and treatment for your pet; rather than having to be referred some distance from the practice.

Separate Hospitalisation Wards On-site

This means your pet is able to stay at the same practice throughout their treatment, day and night. We have a separate dog and cat ward to ensure all of our patients remain as stress free as possible, resulting in a better recovery. We also have separate isolation facilities at our Alton and Alresford practices to provide complete containment for patients with transferrable disease. In addition we are proud members of the Cat friendly clinic scheme and are fortunate enough to have a quiet zone in our reception area for cats and small furries, to help reduce stress.

Nurse Clinics & Consultations

We offer a wide range of nurse clinics including, ‘Fabulous Furries’, ‘Golden Oldies’ and ‘Cuddly Club’, to promote the best care possible for your pet. Alongside clinics, our highly skilled nursing team carry out consultations including nail clips, post-operative checks, suture removals, dental examinations, microchipping and bandaging.

Pet Healthcare Scheme

At Cedar Veterinary Group we believe that prevention is better than cure so we have set up a Pet Healthcare scheme. This enables the cost of preventative treatments to be spread across the year into more manageable monthly payments, whilst ensuring the best care for your pet.

Convenient Location & Home Visits

We are easy to find and are able to provide free on-site parking for our clients. We understand that in some circumstances it is just not possible to come into the practice and in this instance we try to offer a vet home visit. When the time comes some owners also prefer to have their pets euthanised in the more peaceful and familiar home environment, which we are more than happy to facilitate.

Supporting the Local Community

We are the longest standing privately owned Veterinary practice in the area and we have continued over the years to support the local community. We regularly sponsor local agricultural events, including the Alresford Watercress Festival and have our own stand at the Alresford Show. We proudly work with Hart Wildlife to care for our local wildlife. At Cedar Veterinary Group we also constantly strive to raise awareness to ensure the health and wellbeing of all animals, regularly performing talks to local schools and clubs.

Services

We offer a wide range of services to ensure your pet receives the very best care. Please select a link below to find out more:

Facilities

Consultation Rooms

We have several dedicated rooms for individual veterinary consultations to discuss the health concerns of your pet and perform initial examinations. These provide a calm and private environment for you, your pet and your Vet.

Dental Facilities

Dental disease in pet animals is very common. To keep your pet’s smiles white and smelling fresh, each of our surgeries is equipped with high-tech ultrasonic scaling and polishing systems.

In House Laboratory

The laboratories at our main two branches, Alresford and Alton, have blood testing equipment for fast assessment of biochemical parameters and also haematology. In some instances we may require further tests from an outside laboratory. In this case a courier collects the samples directly from our surgeries. We also use microscopy for faecal egg count readings, ectoparasite diagnosis, urinalysis and certain cytology.

Operating Suite

Every branch has its own fully equipped, sterile operating theatre available for a comprehensive range of routine and emergency procedures. Gaseous anaesthesia is used as standard and a Capnograph is used routinely at our Alton branch for anaesthetic monitoring.

Ultrasound

We have two portable ultrasound machines which are regularly used for pregnancy diagnosis and internal imaging. It is a key diagnostic tool for non-invasive imaging of internal organs, fluids and tissues. The ability to image the structure and movement of organs in real time gives us additional information to reach a diagnosis.

Digital Radiography

Our main two surgeries have the latest digital X-ray technology providing images on screen within 30 seconds. This equipment gives us excellent quality images and also allows us to email radiographs to specialists for second opinions when Appropriate.

Treatments

Vaccinations

Annual vaccinations including a health check are recommended for Rabbits, Cats, Dogs and Horses. Diseases that we recommend vaccinating your pets against vary by species and individual circumstances. Decisions on appropriate cover can be discussed with our vets and tailored to you and your pet.

If you are using a cattery or kennels please check carefully when you book your pet with them as to their requirements for type and timing of inoculations. Requirements do vary and can be very strict, potentially leading to a stressful start to your holiday!

Routine Parasite Treatment

Treating your pets for worms and fleas is an important consideration to ensure optimum health for your pet and the rest of your family. There are a multitude of products available to cover the various parasites we have locally and internationally and finding the appropriate product for your pet is a common question we are asked.

As advised in our Pet Healthcare Plan, we advise using flea and worm treatments all year round for dogs and cats.

Microchipping

A microchip is an inert device approximately the size of a grain of rice that can be inserted through a needle under the skin of most species for permanent identification. It allows your pet to be identified via a scanner held by veterinary practices, animal wardens and rescue centres across the country and abroad. If your pet goes missing and is found and brought to one of these centres, the scanner brings up a unique code which can be referenced on a national database to find your details to reunite you both.

Neutering

We do advise routine neutering of cats not intended for breeding at 5-9 months old due to the number of unwanted kittens every year. For dogs, routine neutering is advised but individual cases are best discussed with your Vet. Spay operations for females and castrations for males are routinely performed as day patients. Your pet would ideally have been checked by one of our Vets prior to booking in for their operation. We have pre operation forms available to aid you through the procedure. Bitch Spays are best performed in between seasons which usually means approximately 3 months following a season.

Animal Health Certificates

Travelling abroad with your pet is becoming more and more popular. Our Vets are qualified to issue your dog with an Animal Health Certificate to facilitate this and we can also give you an information leaflet on travelling to Europe and back to the UK.

Euthanasia

This is the most difficult decision to make for a loved pet and also the most important. As pet owners ourselves, we understand the heartache in trying to choose a ‘right time’ and we are here to advise and support you.

It is out of our love for these important furry members of our family that we turn to euthanasia to give our pets a release from their suffering.
