Apart from my obvious love of dogs, one of the things that sets me apart is that I also like people! That may sound strange, but I teach the people to train their dogs, I do not train the dog for them. I enjoy supporting the journey to develop the owners ability to communicate effectively with their dog creating a team.
I have a BA honours degree in Youth and Community Work and spent over 10 years working in this field developing my skills and ability to engage learners. So for me, knowing what each individual wants to get out of owning a dog is key and ensures I can tailor the training to suit their needs. Whether that is a well socialised pet that is comfortable in different surroundings or providing outlets for working line dogs and everything in between!
I have owned and raised various dogs over the years from a young age all with their own unique characteristics and personality. Rescuing Miko, the husky collie mix in 2005 is what started my training journey. I have trained my dogs in various clubs across Bradford and Leeds since 2006 and in 2014 I began assisting in classes in Leeds. Bronte Canine Dog training was founded in 2016 during my studies with the Association of Pet Dog Trainers (APDT). To ensure my clients had the best experience I continued to advanced level and later in 2019 I gained full membership to the association. My training methods adhere to their ethos of “kind, fair, effective” training. I am constantly striving to learn new ways of helping owners to develop training that is right for their dog to create a positive and mutually trusting relationship.
To this end I have continued my studies and I am currently undertaking an Advanced Diploma in Canine Behaviour Management (level 5) with Compass Education. This will give me an even greater understanding on how to develop the dog/owner partnership.
So whether you want to train your pup, participate in the Kennel Club Good Citizen Award programme, provide enrichment or suitable outlets for your dog. I can help you achieve your training goals by delivering training that is right for you.
When I am not training others how to enjoy their dogs, I am either at my small holding with the horses or sheep or training my own collie Arya in our new passion, herding.
