Ultrasound Scanning
Ultrasound scanning is a safe non invasive procedure that requires no sedation for your bitch.

As a level 2 trained sonographer, Jacquie has years of experience dealing with all types of dogs and can help nervous bitches feel at ease.
Scans are done on our premises, the most of which, are conducted with the bitch in a standing position, being more comfortable for her.
Scanning can take place any time after day 28, from the last mating, however, we advise scanning from days 32-35 for optimum results. A small amount of water based gel is used to ensure a clear image is achieved.
Please Note: To get a clear scan image, it may be necessary, on some breeds, for a small amount of hair to be clipped from the bitches under belly, however this is always done with the owners permission. Â
Â
We use modern veterinary grade scanners and have the ability to email you a picture of your bitch’s scan, upon request.
On RCVS (Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons) advice we do not guarantee puppy numbers, for the following reasons:-
- It can be difficult to accurately count numbers due to the anatomy of the bitch
- The embryo’s can often be hidden and therefore missed.
- Occasionally bitch’s can absorb puppies up to the 42nd day of pregnancy, therefore effecting the numbers
If you would like to have your bitch’s pregnancy confirmed, please call or complete the Contact Us form to book.

Microchipping
Microchipping your dog gives you peace of mind that your pet has been given every opportunity it deserves to be reunited with it you should he or she go missing and is now a legal requirement for all dogs. (Not having your dog microchipped, can incur a fine of up to £500)
The Microchip is implanted by a qualified implanter trained by ‘Pet Detect’ and Jacquie has over 20 years experience in this field, offering a friendly and informative service.
Midi Microchips are now offered for puppies and small dogs.
Your pet is implanted with a microchip the size of a grain of rice, your details are then registered with a national database.
If your pet is found and taken to a police station, vets or dog warden, it will be scanned and it’s unique microchip number will be checked with the database and the registered owners contacted and reunited with their pet. It is extremely important to keep your dogs microchip information up to date.
Microchip Information
Microchipping uses Radio Frequency (RFID) technology and cannot be tampered with, fade or be removed. The chip is deposited under the skin between the shoulder blades and the needle used, houses the microchip. The needle is not shaped like a conventional needle, but has a clever design, allowing it to incise the skin easily with little discomfort and the skin closes back as soon as the needle is removed.
The microchip contains no battery or power source. Â When a vet, dog warden or rescue centre scans a found animal, the unique microchip number is displayed to them using a special scanner. This number is then checked against the national database and the animal can then be reunited with it’s owner.
Mating Assistance
We have many years experience in obtaining a successful, natural mating, putting both owners and dogs at ease. This services is often used with maiden bitches or novice stud dogs and owners that are new to the world of breeding.
First time breeders can find the experience quite challenging and are often nervous of the whole procedure. We are here to alleviate all concerns and provide both owners and dogs with a confident and calm environment in order to achieve the end result. Owners will be talked through the whole process and provided with as much information as they need to ensure this is a positive experience for all involved.Â
Artificial InseminationÂ
On occasion it may be necessary to use artificial insemination, for many reasons….Â
- 1. A stud dog may be lame and covering a bitch may put strain on an injured limb
- 2. The bitch owner may have been waiting for some considerable time to have this breeding and does not want to put their breeding plans on hold for another six months.
- 3. Or an older but still fertile stud dog may not be as agile but can still be included in breeding programmes for much longer using artificial insemination.
Most male dogs will allow themselves to be collected from when presented with a bitch in season, this can also give confidence to shy breeders for natural matings in the future. The insemination of the bitch is a simple procedure which should not cause any stress to her.
Semen Evaluation for stud dogs can also be carried out.        Â
