The Club was established in 1975 and is registered with The Kennel Club.
We are a non-profit making organisation, run and supported by a committee of professional qualified trainers who employ both classical and operant conditioning training methodology. The committee are all volunteers giving their time for free to the club.
We run 3 different dog obedience classes, for dogs after initial vaccinations and over.
In these classes, you, as the handler, will train your dog, facilitated by qualified trainers – our aim is to give you the skills to take away and train your dog outside of the classroom.
We actively encourage social interaction with our members and organise activity evenings and social gatherings, which include our ‘four legged friends’.

This is a series of classes for puppies after initial vaccination to 5 months old. (To be 18 weeks or younger on week 1 of the course)
All puppies must have evidence of their inoculations, microchipped and have a valid ID tag.
Abingdon Dog Training Club’s Puppy Foundation course aims to provide a means of socialising puppies and to lay down a foundation for education and training. It is an excellent lead into our 8 week basic obedience training which your puppy can attend from 5 months old.
There will be a certificate awarded upon completion of the course.
The minimum age requirement for this course is 5 months. Places are limited and are booked on a first come first served basis. All pet dogs, who meet the age requirement, will be eligible to apply for a place on the next available Bronze Course whether they have qualified through puppy class or not. The club reserves the right to assess the dogs and advise owners on basic obedience and solve minor behavioural problems prior to reaching a standard where entry to the Bronze Course is approved.
The 8 week course is structured to work towards the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme Bronze Award. This course covers basic pet obedience exercises including sit, down, stay, recall & controlled walking. It is an excellent basis for more advanced training with us, and will give you the skills and confidence that you need to be able to train your pet dog.
There will be a certificate awarded upon successful completion of the course.
(There is a high demand for places on this course, which is frequently over subscribed. You may need to be placed on a waiting list for future course availability.)
Silver Award Aim:
The 6 week course is structured to work towards the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme Silver Award. This course builds upon the skills learned in the Bronze Award whilst increasing the level of difficulty. The Silver Award is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as the controlled greeting, road walk and vehicle control exercises which are important in everyday life situations.
The Silver Award aims to provide handlers with a good knowledge of understanding and training their canine companion.
There will be a certificate awarded upon successful completion of the course.

Gold Award Aim:
The 6 week course is structured to work towards the Kennel Club Good Citizens Dog Scheme Gold Award. This course is the highest level of achievement of the Scheme. It builds upon the skills learnt in the Silver Award and develops more advance training skills of the dog and handler. The Gold Award is a natural progression of practical dog training skills and introduces new concepts such as relaxed isolation, stop the dog and send the dog to bed exercises, which are important in every day life situations. The Gold Award aims to provide handlers with a greater knowledge and understanding of their canine companion. Dogs that are awarded a Gold Certificate should reach the required standards in all exercises and be a worthy representative of the Scheme’s highest standard. Where possible it is preferable that certain exercises are tested at indoor and outdoor locations.
