At Canine Styling Studio, making your dog happy makes us happy! Gemma is a fully qualified and experienced Dog Groomer, who simply loves dogs. She takes pride in her work and provides a high quality of service. Having qualified at the prestigous Blackwood Grooming School in 2010, it has been her dream to one day open her own salon. That day has now arrived and Canine Styling Studio is born!
Our Studio has been purposely built to cater for dogs of all sizes and agilty, whilst trying our best to keep stress to a minimum. We have a large smooth operating electric table, which travels low enough to enable your dog to step straight onboard. Our bathing area has purpose built steps, enabling your dog to walk straight in. And we dry all dogs with professional dryers – we do not use drying cabinets.
Frequently Asked Questions – answered by Gemma
What if my dog is matted?
At Canine Styling Studio, our De-matting Policy is simply “Comfort Before Vanity”. Firstly, I do not judge! As a dog owner myself, I understand that keeping on top of brushing your pet can sometimes be difficult. We all have busy lives and sometimes things like moving house or having children can have an impact on your brushing routine. Unfortunately, this can result in your pet becoming matted. As a responsible Groomer who abides by the Animal Welfare act,  it is my duty to groom your pet humanely and respectfully. Upon arrival at the Studio, I will examine your pet and discuss the grooming options with you. Regular knots and small areas of matted coat are usually no problem, though due to the time spent working on these areas I may need to apply an additional charge. Please see my Terms Of Service for more information. However, if your pet is matted to a point where my attempt to de-matt them will cause pain and discomfort, Im afraid I will have no option but to give them a close clip. It is always my desire to follow an owners styling requests where possible, but de-matting is extremely painful and traumatic for a dog which is not something I am willing to inflict. I am happy to give you some tips and advice on how to best groom your dog.
Can I stay with my pet whilst its being groomed?
I am happy for owners to stay, providing your dog isnt too excited or distracted by your presence. Sometimes a dog will be so preoccupied with the owner that grooming them can be a little difficult!
Will my dog be caged?
I am not personally a fan of caging animals, so will always try to avoid doing so. However, caging is sometimes vital for the safety of your dog. I cannot guarentee that every dog who comes through the door will be friendly or neutered, so it is my policy that pets will never come face to face. If your dog is caged during its time in the Studio, I will ensure that it is freed and exercised regularly.
Are you insured?
Yes, Canine Styling Studio is fully insured.
Do you muzzle dogs?
Unfortunately, not all dogs love being groomed, so sometimes I am presented with an aggressive dog. I personally find that muzzling can sometimes cause more problems than it solves. Most dogs hate wearing them and it can stress them out. I always try to avoid using muzzles where possible, but if all attempts fail, and the safety of your dog and myself is at risk, I will use a muzzle, but only as a last resort. I will always try my best to work with a dog who has behavioural problems, but as per my Terms Of Service, I do reserve the right to stop a groom if I feel that the safety of the dog or myself is at serious risk.
