Dog training and Agility training at Beacon Barkers is ran by Laura Field & Helen Green.
A bit about the team, Laura has been working with dogs since she was 14 (35 now). Working for the RSPCA from the age of 14 until last year she has plenty of experience of working with dogs. Part of this role included working in the rehoming centre for an impressive 10 years, In this role Laura dealt with some of the worse possible cases of neglect. You wouldn’t be surprised that in this area Laura has dealt with almost every possible behaviour problem and have successfully rehabilitated many dogs. As if this wasn’t enough of a challenge, Laura then moved to work at the RSPCA hospital looking after sick and injured animals as a hospital assistant. All of this hands on experience for many years has taught so much, more than a book or course could ever teach…
Teaching dogs with kind, positive reward based methods and realistic enough to understand that not every method works for all dogs, it’s important not to have a blanket rule of one specific way must work for every dog.
Laura has a keen eye for competitions too, working as a keen agility competitor since I was 16 years old. Through the summer Laura and Helen are regularly off in the caravan at agility shows competing.
Laura’s partner Helen, has been in agility since she was 19, she trained her first border collie in agility, he was a hard dog, she had to think outside the box to help him understand what she wanted and to help control his extremely high chase drive. Helen runs a very successful dog walking company based in Oldbury, she deals with an array of breeds from miniature Dachshund’s to a St Bernard. All of which she does basic obedience training with as part of her dog walking service. Many of her clients have come to Helen and said they have never been able to let their dog off lead, but with Helens time and patience, the owners have ended up with a dog who has a great recall and is able to be let of the lead safely.
Laura and Helen have fostered and rehabilitated over 300 dogs for rescue in our own home. (pretty impressive) The dogs they have had, have been everything from completely shut down puppy farm females about to give birth, to dogs who have been left in a kennel or tied up their whole lives with no social interaction, making them extremely nervous and making them bite risks with no idea how to live in a home. We previously held dog training classes when we was based in Tamworth. the team say that “they are re super lucky to be working with Beacon Barkers Pet Centre to bring new dog training classes to the Bromsgrove area”.
Caz and Darron are delighted to work with Helen and Laura who are both professionals in the field (see what I did there).. Working with Laura Field.
