About Us

We are a small friendly business, owned and run by the Whalley family since 1959.
Nestling in the Douglas Valley, in the rural hamlet of Gathurst just 4 miles from Wigan town centre, we are surrounded by our 200 acres of beautiful Lancashire countryside with easy access by road ( 5 mins J26 & J27 of the M6) and rail ( 2 mins walk from Gathurst Station).

At  Deandane  we pride ourselves on our friendly,  experienced and professional staff who are dedicated to making your pets stay with us more of a home from home than just boarding, taking time to get to know each animals personality and preferences.

The Kennels

Our kennels are specifically designed with spacious indoor sleeping areas with all day access to a covered outdoor play area via a door with see through draught curtain. These doors are closed at night and the kennels heated in the cold weather so the dogs are always cosy and warm. Beds are supplied with soft paper bedding which is changed or replenished daily, however, you are more than welcome to bring your own bed and/or bedding if you prefer.

We have various sized kennels to suit single and multiple pets.

Your pet will also have access to our large, grassed exercise paddocks, at least 3 times a day, to run free and play with the staff.

For the comfort of your dog, we use shavings on the floor of the internal kennel to soak up any urine if, for any reason, your dog needs to go. We can use shredded paper if you would prefer, please ask when you arrive.

The Cattery

We  have  different designs and sizes of catteries to cater for all personalities and multiple pets.

Design 1 has steps up to a bed platform. Access to a covered outside play area is via a cat flap where cats can lounge on the shelf and watch the world go by. They also feature further play platforms. These catteries are heated in the cold weather.

Design 2 is perfect for indoor living cats with a viewing window and lounging platform for watching the world go by. Each has a living space with an insulated, covered bed and is individually heated with access to an internal play area via a cat flap, complete with further platforms.

All are light and airy with a cosy sleeping area with covered beds and comfy vetbed bedding so your pet will feel safe, a scratch post, toys and litter trays.

Vaccinations

It is against the law for any licensed kennels and cattery to allow any animal into the premises without proof of relevant vaccinations. It is the pet owners responsibility to check your pet is up to date well in advance of the boarding period as it is very distressing for all concerned to be turned away on the day you are going on holiday.  Your vet will happily give you a copy if you have mislaid the certificate.

DOGS

Proof must be provided, at least once a year, that any dog boarding at Deandane has current inoculations against Canine Parvovirus, Canine Distemper Virus, Leptospirosis and Infectious Canine Hepatitis. Initial vaccinations consist of 2 injections 2-3 weeks apart and it will be a further 14 days before we can accept any dog for boarding. Boosters must be given according to current legislation.

All dogs must also be immunised against Kennel Cough. Initial immunisation must be carried out at least 14 days prior to the first day of boarding and yearly boosters at least 7 days prior to the first day of boarding.

CATS

Proof must be provided, at least once a year, that any cat boarding at Deandane has current innoculations against Cat Flu (feline herpes virus and feline calcivirus), Feline Infectious Enteritis and feline Leukaemia Virus. Initial inoculations consist of 2 injections 2-3 weeks apart and it will be a further 14 days before we can accept any cat for boarding. Boosters must be give according to current legislation.

FLEAS AND TICKS

Whilst it is not our resposibility to treat any animal in our care against fleas and ticks, we pride ourselves on our housekeeping to make sure your pets are not affected by them while in our care, so, if your pet has not had recent treatment we may request that we treat them before entry in to the kennel or cattery area with an over the counter product. We reserve the right to refuse boarding if our offer is refused.
