ABOUT US

Kevin McNicholas & Shirley Paine have both been training dogs for over 35 years, initially training their own dogs for competitions in working trials, dog obedience and agility, followed by introducing ‘Flyball’ to the UK – a sport their dogs were hugely successful at, both at home and in Europe. Recently we have been joined by another experienced dog trainer. Kerry is an enthusiastic and patient dog trainer who is passionate about helping people gain the skills to build a good relationship with their dogs through fun, reward based training. She has experience in puppy training, clicker training, general obedience, Rally Obedience and Heelwork To Music. Kerry owns two Golden Retrievers and has successfully competed in Heelwork To Music, she is currently training and competing with her youngest dog in Competitive Obedience, her dogs are also very much a part of her family life. An experienced and qualified pet dog instructor, International Animal Behaviour Training College Approved Pet Dog Training Advanced Instructor, Associate member of Pet Dog Training Instructors , RCDTBP Signatory. In 1988, we started running pet dog training classes with a fresh approach designed training around the needs of the average dog owner in London. Our unique style of positive reinforcement, ‘hands on’ training methods was born, their vision that dogs should enjoy being trained and through positive reinforcement enhance their relationship with their owner. Over the years we have trained many thousands of dogs in our classes, many clients return again with their second, third or even fourth puppy! Kevin is a dog behaviourist and specialises in helping to solve problems with difficult dogs. Check out his reviews on Google they are very impressive. Kevin also assessed dogs for Therapaws a pet therapy program. He has been the visiting dog behaviourist and dog trainer for the Mayhew Dog’s Home as well as a full time behaviourist and dog trainer with 35 years experience to call on there are not many problems he hasn’t dealt with. Shirley is the puppy training specialist and believes it is very important to help get puppy off to a flying start from the day he arrives in his new home. Preventing problems from occurring is crucial and can be achieved through having a united approach from everyone in the household.

Group Puppy Training Classes

We also offer a 4 week general puppy training and socialisation class to help you to teach your puppy how to behave around other dogs and people. The most important thing to learn is about communication between human family and your puppy. Puppy cannot understand human language so you and your family have to learn puppy language to communicate effectively.

Telling puppy off, scolding or saying “No” is unlikely to teach puppy anything useful, in fact, it is likely to be seen by puppy as a reward and lead to encouraging unwanted behaviour.

Learning how puppy thinks, communicates and by using positive reinforcement means that you can very quickly teach puppy to understand what you want and start repeating desirable behaviours while you can say “good puppy” all day instead of being negative.

Puppy training classes are the perfect way to teach puppy to socialise around other dogs and people. We teach owners how to encourage their dogs to be interested in them when there are other dogs and distractions around.

Home visits

A Home Visit consists of us travelling to your home and providing you and your family with a dog or puppy training session which usually lasts about 90 minutes of hands on training, advice and answering your questions. We believe it is very important when booking a home visit to see you and your dog in the environment where the problems are occurring. During a home visit we can answer questions on any topic related to training your dog or puppy, clients often write a list of questions. The home visit is usually more focused on you and your puppy or dog and is more relaxed than classes, the session is targeted on your particular requirements and your home environment.

Do I need a Home Visit
If you have not had a puppy or dog before or it was a long time ago a home visit is recommended, as it will bring you and your family up to speed on the best way to bring up your puppy or dog. It will give you more confidence in how you interact and train your dog or puppy.
