Kelvingrove Dogs

This is a lovely old victorian type park situated in the shadow of the University of Glasgow. It’s around 100 acres, with plenty of tarmac paths which are wheelchair a buggy friendly. Loads of green grass for the dogs to run free, but be warned it can be busy on a hot summers day. There’s loads of benches and folk often stop for picnics. There are some elevated areas of the park, which i’s guess to be about 80 acres in total. To one side there is the University (housing the Huntarian) and the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Galleries. There’s also bowling greens and tennis pitches which can be booked. There is a car park at the gallery, which is the cheapest place to park, but note it is patrolled regularly, do don’t outstay your ticket. There is also on street metered parking, loads of bus connections and the closest tube station on the clockwork orange is, somewhat unsurprisingly, called kelvingrove. The other side of the park (separated by a tree lined street) hosts ornamental gardens, lots if open green space, a bandstand, the river kelvin walkway, a duck pond, several monuments and fountains. There is a restaurant on the bottom floor of the gallery, a cafe on the first floor and an al fresco van outside. There are loads of pubs and restaurants around the edges of the park.

This walk is best done with a ball or frisbee on a quiet spring or autumn afternoon when the bulbs are out and the trees not fully leaved. The paths are interconnecting, just remember where you parked your car to complete the circuit.
