Hello, we are Andy and Claire Kinnard of Animals at Home (National Forest) Limited. Established in 2011 and centred in Burton on Trent we cover much of the National Forest area including postcodes DE11, DE12, DE13, DE14, DE15, DE3, DE65 and DE23.

We have lived in Burton for 20 years and have an adorable Irish Terrier, Lily, (her mother Enya recently passed away) as well as chickens laying what Claire calls ‘happy eggs’ and a Guinea Pig called ‘Pyg’. With eight children, and currently 14 grandchildren, over the years we have looked after most small furry pets including rats, hamsters, gerbils, rabbits and guinea pigs. Claire’s childhood included having standard poodles, sheep and horses. Her brother currently farms an organic mixed arable and livestock farm in Nottinghamshire and we enjoy helping out with the lambing and calving.

We have both received professional animal training at a RCVS veterinary hospital, including first aid, animal handling, hygiene and pet nutrition. We work closely with all veterinary practices in the area and have a fully equipped Animal Ambulance which is DEFRA approved and hold a Type 2 Animal Transportation Authorisation allowing us to take pets locally and across the UK in comfort and safety.

For your peace of mind, we are fully insured, hold DBS enhanced certificates, are City & Guilds qualified, and members of the Derbyshire County Council Trusted Trader Scheme.

For 10 years we have had the privilege of serving pets and their owners across East Staffordshire & South Derbyshire. Our pet care services include:

  • Dog walking and home visits
  • Cat feeding & sitting
  • Small pet feeding & sitting
  • Exotic pet feeding & sitting
  • Pet taxi & pet transport

Do you work long hours? Sometimes away all day? Does your dog show signs of stress and boredom? Maybe you can’t walk your dog due to health reasons?

Exercise is important to your dog

The Kennel Club recommends that a dog be walked for at least 30 to 40 minutes a day. We will come to your house and chat with you about your dog’s needs to ensure your dog has a walk suitable to his ability.  Your dog may be more comfortable in an area they know, or happy to explore new places, we always ensure we offer the best possible walk for your dog.

In theory, anyone can be a dog walker. But are you going to entrust your canine family member to just anyone?

Animals at Home (National Forest) Ltd are City & Guilds qualified in dog walking and follow the Professional Dog Walkers Guidelines approved by the RSPCA, Dogs Trust and Pet Industry Federation.

These guidelines include:

  • Meeting your dog before walking to assess their behaviour, personality and care.
  • Discuss and agree with you the individual needs of your dog and instructions that need to be followed.
  • Understand any medical issues or physical restrictions your dog may have.
  • Plan your dog’s walk taking into consideration age, health, behaviour and fitness.
  • If required, transport your dog in safety and comfort in our Defra approved animal van.
  • Exercise your dog in a safe and appropriate way to provide interest and stimulation.
  • Your dog will be walked on the lead unless you have provided prior written permission and your dog’s reliable recall has been assessed.

In addition, we are:

  • Fully insured for the care and custody of your dog and public liability insurance
  • Have enhanced DBS disclosure
  • Vet trained in animal First Aid

Our Cat Care at Home service is ideal for all sorts of cats, from independent types that like to come and go as they please though a cat flap, to elderly cats that just want to sleep in their favourite spot and of course fuss and cuddles along the way.

Cat Care at Home visits include fussing your cat, litter tray cleaning, feeding, changing water. We can even cater for cats on medication including diabetic cats as we are fully trained in administering tablets and injections.

For your peace of mind we are fully insured, have enhanced DBS certificates, are members of the Derbyshire County Council Trusted Trader scheme and have recently been awarded ‘Best Pet Care Provider East Staffordshire & South Derbyshire’ by SME Magazine Midlands Enterprise Awards 2020.

We are also City & Guilds trained for the care of cats.

We will also keep a good eye on your home ensuring that you can enjoy your holiday in peace.

Extract from an article written by a vet.
“In my opinion many cats would remain more relaxed at home and visited twice a day to be interacted with and left mentally challenging toys, instead of being shut up in a smaller environment with many other cats within sight and earshot which by the solitary nature of the species, would be stressful”.

Dr. Tim Watson, BVMS & MRCVS

Animals at Home provide a professional house sitting service in your own home whilst you are away.

Many people consider their pets as part of the family. They love, care and worry about them, as much as any other member of the family. Therefore the thought of going away and putting their pets into boarding establishments causes feelings of stress, guilt and unhappiness of going away.

Many animals find boarding establishments extremely stressful, as they do not receive the love, attention and cuddles they are use to in a family home. This is why Animals at Home offers this specialised service just for you.We provide alternative arrangements for pets when you go away, and give you total peace of mind by providing a trustworthy, experienced and reliable pet sitting and house sitting service.

Animals at Home will provide you with a house sitter who will live in your property to ensure security and peace of mind in your absence. The house sitters will care for your pets – take them for as many walks as you request, feed them at their usual times, groom them and, most important, the house sitter will give them lots of love and cuddles whilst you are away.

Because of the personalised service we offer – house sitting is very beneficial for owners who have pets with disabilities such as being blind, deaf, partially disabled, or are too old or timid for boarding establishments or diabetic. The house sitter will also administer medication and follow special diets or food regimes. We understand your pet’s needs and follow their normal regime and offer compassion and the experience to deal with any situation, we specialise with nervous or timid animals that require a lot of understanding, patience and attention.

Our house sitters are personally interviewed and carefully screened for their maturity and reliability. We look for people with a love for animals, an enthusiasm for caring for homes and a demonstrated awareness of security issues. All our house sitters have first class personal references.

We endeavour, where possible, to match sitters as closely as possible to your particular requirements.

We offer a personal, caring and supportive service.

Our lives are challenging enough in these unprecedented times. But the death of a beloved pet can make life even more difficult. When it’s time to say farewell to your beloved companion and you are choosing cremation for your pet, knowing your pet will be treated with the respect and care it deserves is a vital part of coping with the loss.

With 10 years experience of helping owners during this upsetting and difficult time, we are well placed to provide the local, personal, caring and professional cremation service you need.

Not all cremation services are the same, so here are the things we will do, and the things we won’t do, to give you the assurance you are placing your pet and beloved companion in the right hands:

WE WILL:

  • Treat your pet as if it were our own family member, with the care and respect it deserves.
  • Provide a guaranteed individual cremation for your pet.
  • Cremate your pet on the same day of collection, or next working day if collection is after 6pm Monday to Saturday, or on a Sunday.
  • If required, collect your pet individually from your home, or your vet, 7 days a week, usually within 2 hours of a request, in a purpose-built animal ambulance.
  • Give you an all-inclusive fee for the cremation you have chosen with no hidden add-on charges.
  • Return the ashes of your pet to you in person. The ashes are usually ready the day following cremation and can be returned to you then. If you have ordered an engraved plaque, this can take up to five working days. This can be posted to you if you have decided to have the ashes returned earlier.
  • Stay in touch with you as required, to update you and to arrange a convenient time to personally return the ashes to you.
  • Try to accommodate individual requests for items to be cremated with your pet, as long as it is safe and hygienic to do so.

WE WILL NOT:

  • Treat or handle your pet in a disrespectful manner.
  • Put your pet in a bag (if collected from a vet, this may already have been done).
  • Store your pet in a freezer (if collected from a vet, this may already have been done).
  • Collect or transport your pet along with other animals at the same time.
  • Cremate your pet with any other animal at the same time.
  • Charge you for hidden extras.
  • Keep you waiting for days, or even weeks for the return of your pet’s ashes, unless you have specifically asked us to delay the return of them to you.
  • Post your pet’s ashes to you (if requested, the engraved plaque will be posted to you).

For your further peace of mind, we are fully insured, operate a Defra approved Animal Ambulance, properly licensed for the transport of deceased domestic pets and members of the Derbyshire County Council Trusted Trader Scheme.
