Welcome to Doodle Dogs!

Dog trainer and lurcher dog

If you have a brand new puppy, a senior dog or anything in-between and need help with training then I am here for you.

Training a dog of any age is a wonderful way to build your relationship and deepen your understanding of each other – as well as getting the behaviours you are after.

Puppy classes begin with communication, key to getting your training off to a good start. Once your puppy is listening to you, you can work towards achieving the dog you are after – plus have the the best chance of getting through those teenage months!

Recall is a common problem and also something that seems to disappear in your teenage dog. Rest assured that there are plenty of techniques to both teach recall in the first place or to re-establish a recall that has disappeared.

Dogs of any age can be trained to perform a range of behaviours. It may take longer for an older pet but that can make training all the more rewarding. One to One Tuition is there for anyone with a specific training desire, those who do not appreciate group classes and for young dogs who are a bit too old for the puppy classes. Let me know what you are after and we can work out a training plan.

I use positive reinforcement techniques with trust and confidence-building exercises to help you get the most out of your relationship with your dog. In accordance with this practice, I will not allow the use of slip leads, choke chains or any other device that could hurt or damage your dog in my lessons so please do not bring any of these items with you.
A great illustration of why rewards work better than punishment can be seen in the video on this page:

As I am going to be working with your precious pup, you may like to know that:

  • I am a member of the Institute of Modern Dog Trainers (IMDT)
  • I have passed the IMDT Assessment with Merit
  • I have a level 3 BTEC Diploma in Animal Management with Distinction
  • I have a Level 3 Open College Network certificate in the Principles of Dog Training and Behaviour
  • I have completed a K9 First Aid Course and
  • I am insured with Cliverton, a specialist animal industry insurer

This course is suitable for puppies from their second vaccination up to five months old at the first lesson. The program covers the basics of sit, down, leave it, settle, recall and loose-lead walking. More importantly, we’ll look at how puppies learn, how and when to reward them and we’ll build up their confidence and sense of investigation with a variety of toys and equipment.

Please note that your puppy must have had its full course of vaccinations (the second one is usually administered at around 12 weeks old) to attend this class in order to keep them all safe.

There will be a maximum of 6 puppies per class (outside) or 4 puppies (inside).

Course dates:
Tuesday evenings from 6pm to 7pm at Box Playing Fields (outdoor)
27th June – 8th August 2023 (Please note, there will be no class on 4th July)

If you are considering getting a puppy, you might want some information up front to help you with your decisions and prepare for your new family member. If you’d like some help with getting off to the best start then please visit my ‘One To One Tuition’ page and request an appointment from there.

If you are already a proud new puppy owner and would like some help with early days issues like toilet training, crate training, overnight routines and puppy mouthing/nipping then please also use my ‘One To One Tuition’ page to request an appointment dedicated just to you.

One To One Tuition

Black and white Papillon Phalene dog

One to One Tuition is perfect for many situations including:

  • Advice before getting a puppy or dog
  • Pre-vaccination advice and early puppy training e.g. toilet-training, crate-training, nipping etc
  • For puppies and dogs who are shy or easily distracted
  • To cover topics you particularly want to work on e.g. Loose-lead walking
  • To fit in with your own timetable
  • Support for those days that don’t go quite right!

At our first meeting I will carry out an initial assessment and we can then discuss what you would like to work on and get started. You can choose to have as many or as few lessons as you like but please be realistic and understand that the more you put in, the more you will get out.

We can work on one specific training need or move from one to another as things develop – entirely at your speed.

Please note that my work concentrates on training, rather than behavioural issues so, if it turns out that you need assistance with the latter, I will point you in the direction of other professionals who may be better placed to help you.

Price: £45.00 per hour, payable in advance

If you are interested in booking some One to One tuition, please use the button below to provide me with your details and I will call you to discuss your needs, arrange an appointment and to take payment.
