Cleestangate Gundogs are based in Ludlow, Shropshire. We are experienced breeders and trainers of Gundogs. Set in the stunning Shropshire hills we can provide training to take you and your dog from the basics through to working on live game in the shooting field. As licensed breeders we are dedicated to following a responsible breeding program, our focus is on producing top quality Labradors and Spaniels for working and active pet homes.

Based Ludlow and nestled in the beautiful Shropshire Hills, Cleestangate Gundogs are committed to delivering professional training sessions to teach both the handler and the dog.
From puppy age through to fully grown dogs we are happy to assist you with your training requirements. We can provide you with the training to achieve the perfect partnership with your family pet or fully trained gundog.
We can offer one to one or group training, all of which are bespoke packages. We have excellent facilities including a stocked rabbit pen, 10 acres of ground including hedges, fences, stone walls and pools. Prior to the shooting and trialing season we have access to game cover crops which is fantastic preparation for the upcoming season. We also run training days to give you and your dog the opportunity to train in company which proves an excellent introduction for young dogs to the shoot field. Lessons can include starting pistols and dummy launchers for simulated training depending on your requirements. Please get in touch for more information.

Basic training includes sit, stay, heel work and recall.
Moving onto retreiving and basic dummy work.
Progressing to marked, blind and directional retreives.
Training days
You might wish to have your dog as a shooting companion or to take it picking up, perhaps you wish to progress on to working tests and eventually field trials.
Training days allow guns to practice their skills with their dogs ready for the shooting season.
All About Us
Husband and wife team Matthew and Kate Brown have been involved in the breeding of quality gundogs for many years. Based in the beautiful countryside of Ludlow, Shropshire they are committed to producing high quality gundogs for working and active pet homes.
Matthew was brought up on a farm where his passion for Labradors began. His father had a team of black Labradors for picking up and enjoyed many days out learning the ropes. Upon leaving school and training as a gamekeeper Matt’s passion for training gundogs really took hold. His first trialing Spaniel was Gala Girl “Molly”, a black cocker bitch of whom started his breeding line.
