Hi! I’m Angela Rickard, the owner of Ponderosa Pet Services. At my bespoke pet care premises located on the edge of Haverfordwest, I specialise in looking after dogs who are smaller, mature and less active. I also agree to look after young and active dogs if they mix well with the other dogs.
I can provide these pet care services:
Doggy daycare (for 4, 8 or 12 hours at a time)
Dog home boarding
Pet sitting
Pop-in visits
Holistic dog grooming
Adventure walks (each lasting 1, 2 or 3 hours)
Pet taxi
My pet hotel is nestled in the countryside, just a short walk away from Haverfordwest Racecourse. My pet sitting centre is a low-set bungalow with a large private garden where dogs are free to romp around.
I treat each dog as an individual and give them the care, attention and enriching activities they need.
As a dog groomer, I use organic products to care for and clean the dog in a manner that is relaxing and rewarding for them.
All of this takes place in a safe, loving and secure environment with no pressure, no restraints and no crates.
Have you put off plans to go out because you don’t want to leave your dog home alone? Refused to consider going on holiday because you won’t put your dog in kennels? Trust me – I know exactly how you feel about leaving your fur baby with someone else. (And mine only went 2 miles up the road to my parents’ home where she visits every day anyway!)
There is an alternative to Boarding Kennels, and it’s called “Doggy Daycare” and “Home Boarding”. Commercial Doggy Daycare Centres are great, and becoming very popular, but they can be quite intimidating for some dogs faced with a large group of playful hounds – and not all dogs are accepted for commercial daycare.
Ponderosa Pet Services offers the whole package: “Pet Hotel & Day Spa” and will become your dog(s) second home. They can come for a half day while you go out shopping or catching up with a friend for coffee; a whole day so you can go out of town; a weekend or week-long holiday while you take your well-earned break; a session in the grooming salon; walks when you’re at work all day or not feeling well (or the weather is really awful!).
Why can you trust Ponderosa Pet Services?
The business itself opened in August 2021 – I’m fully licensed and insured as well as a member of the Pet Industry Federation and British Dog Groomers’ Association.
Here at Ponderosa Pet Services, there is direct access to the back garden, with secure fencing. All entrances have been double-gated with security cameras at strategic positions and video feeds streaming to my phone 24/7.

Doggy Daycare & Home Boarding
Have you put off plans to go out because you don’t want to leave your dog home alone? Refused to consider going on holiday because you won’t put your dog in boarding kennels?
Fortunately, there is an alternative to kennels, and it’s called ‘Doggy Daycare and Home Boarding’. As a pet hotel and day spa in Haverfordwest, Ponderosa Pet Services can provide specialised care for a half day, a whole day, a weekend or an entire week.
Please note that I can only take dogs who are aged at least six months old and fully vaccinated, including against kennel cough. Male dogs must be neutered.
Adventure Walks
My doggy daycare hub is in the countryside, with easy access to picturesque woodland walks. Adventure walks are available for individual, family or group walks, while extended and exclusive care is also an option.
I will collect your dog(s) and take them for an interesting adventure walk somewhere in Pembrokeshire, taking their age, fitness level and other needs into consideration. At the end of the session, which can include stimulating games and play, I will return the dog back home.
Pet Taxi
With my dog collection and drop-off service, I can chauffeur your canine to the vets or collect your dog for a visit to or from Ponderosa Pet Services. I use a modern, fuel-efficient, air-conditioned and business-insured car for all my pet taxi services.
Holistic Grooming
As a dog groomer, I use eco-friendly products and work within the dog’s comfort zone. Whenever grooming, including puppy grooming, I never use any restraints, muzzles or crates.

Ponderosa Pet Services is a Pet Groomer offering Dog Grooming, Puppy Grooming & Holistic Dog Grooming in Pembrokeshire, Haverfordwest.
What is Holistic Grooming?
Holistic Grooming is a practice that considers the emotional needs of an animal with a focus on preserving health and wellbeing. Using positive and science-backed methods, grooming is provided in a way that reduces stress and allows the experience to be more pleasant for all. It’s about applying canine behaviour, safe handling and communication in the grooming approach. It also considers products, alternative therapies that may compliment the procedure and also the environment around the dog and groomer.
Every step of the grooming process is made positive and enriching for your dog.
Ponderosa Pet Services – Groom Room
For me, the environment is the key. I have a simple home-style salon with basic but functional equipment, with no scary big hydro-baths, dryer cabinets or crates. I use environmentally friendly products and have relaxing music playing. The salon has two comfy leather armchairs (for the dogs) and direct access to my large enclosed garden. I only ever work with one dog (or dogs from the same family) at a time. I am a consensual groomer and I always use my knowledge of canine communication to ensure that I am giving your dog a rewarding experience and freedom of choice.
Dogs are given the opportunity to explore the garden and the salon beforehand to enable them to relax. Once they are ready and I have gained their trust, they will happily stand or sit on the grooming table to be pampered. I go at the dog’s pace, never restraining them to secure them in position or using belly straps to force them to remain standing. If the dog needs a break, they get a break.
Dogs that are new to, or traumatised by the grooming experience require additional support and time to adjust. I will work with your dog over multiple visits to build trust and confidence, and teach them co-operative grooming skills so they can happily participate in their own care. I will never promise to hand over a perfectly-groomed dog in a specific time frame. I will, however, give your dog love and gentle encouragement, and as much time needed to enjoy being pampered. I may not be able to give a complete clip or get a sensitive area done, but my aim is to hand over a dog that is still happy, and willing to return for another session.
If I have two dogs from the same family, I will assess whether they would prefer to be groomed simultaneously or one at a time. The second dog is free to curl up on the armchair, in a dog bed or even sit on the grooming table with their buddy. A crate is available, always open, for those dogs who do prefer to rest in one. Once the groom is completed, Dogs are NEVER CRATED to wait for collection. Instead, they’re rewarded with games in the garden until collected.
