About Me and My Services

My name is Helen.  After 25 years of working in an office as a Personal Assistant at Director level (I worked within the media industry the last 10 years of my career), I decided I’d like a change and gave up work to become a dog owner.

I have been caring and walking dogs now for many years and attended several Certified Pet First Aid courses, the most recent being on 14 January 2023).  I also have a Level 3 Diploma in Dog Walking (with Distinction) and was a tutor for Animal Jobs Direct, with 29 students, helping them to study for their Diploma in Pet Sitting and Dog Walking, helping them through their exams and taking them on their Practical Day with two walks of four dogs to give them some hands-on experience.  I am fully insured, police checked and have been granted a Dog Boarding Licence by Buckinghamshire Council (see licence no. on my home page).

I believe in positive training for dogs, meaning not to punish a pet when he’s ‘naughty’, but reward it when he’s behaving, which I find gets much better results.  I have been on 4 training courses with my first dog Daisy, each of 6×1 hour (ie 24 hours in total) so know how to teach dogs the basic daily commands.

History

I began boarding dogs in 2012 when my dog walking clients wanted their dogs looked after when they went away.

After running a successful dog walking business for six years, I therefore decided to specialise in dogboarding in 2016.  I have been approved and own a Dog Boarding Licence by Buckinghamshire Council.  The business has now grown and I have over fifty clients who use my services regularly.

I will look after your dog as if he/she were my own.  I live with my husband, and elderly Puggle, Bruno,  in a detached house with a large dog friendly garden.  Your dog will enjoy daily walks with other dog boarding clients staying over that time (up to four on a walk).  My maximum amount of ‘guest’ dogs in the house is just three, so that I can give them the time needed to feel loved, physically and mentally fulfilled.

I charge £35 per day or part thereof and expect your dog to be delivered and collected from my home in High Wycombe.  I can collect and drop off but this will be a further cost.

As an experienced dog owner, I appreciate that it is always a concern leaving your beloved pet with ‘strangers’ and am happy to text or Whatsapp you with regular updates.  I also take daily pictures (Monday to Friday and not bank holidays) and publish them on my Facebook page, so that you can see how your dog is, and what he/she has been up to that day (tap on link below).

If you are away only one night, a weekend or a few weeks, your dog will enjoy its own holiday with me and look forward to meeting other dogs, going for walks and getting lots of cuddles.  I will also meet all other requirements (eg special dietary requirements, medication etc) as necessary.

I will be happy to supply references or you can find Testimonials on my appropriate website page.

Prices

Dog Boarding:

Please note that this rate applies to a 24 hour period (eg 10am Saturday to 10am Sunday).  If you’d like your dog looked after for longer than that (eg after 10am on the Sunday), part of the next day’s charge will be payable, especially if it includes another walk.

The dogboarding rate assumes that your dog will be dropped off by you and collected from my house and you will supply all food.  If you’d like me to collect your dog (and/or drop them off) an additional fee will be added to pay for the petrol and travel time.

I hold a current Dog Boarding Licence granted by Buckinghamshire Council (LC202203-74545).

Testimonials from some of my clients

June 2021 – present.  So fortunate to have found Helen’s dog boarding services.  She offers a wonderful home from home environment in a very professional way.  Each day the dogs are taken on well thought out long country walks catered to the needs of the dogs that are staying with her and photos and updates are sent regularly so we are able to see just how much fun our Cavachon, Kingston, is having.  Highly recommended.  Wendy & Franklin, High Wycombe

June 2019 – present. Without a doubt, having Helen recommended to us to look after Isla, our black Labrador, whilst we are on holiday, gives us the total peace of mind to be able to relax, knowing that Isla will be having her own fun-filled holiday too.  Helen is professional, experienced, excellent with communicating to the owner, and quickly understands your dog’s individual needs.  Isla is still in training which doesn’t phase Helen, who goes way beyond the “extra mile” to help with this, especially with Isla’s recall, and offers advice to us for ongoing training.  Helen is patient and has the ability whilst out to anticipate Isla’s inquisitive mind and distract her quickly.  We look forward to the fabulous daily FB photos and captions to see where Isla and her doggy friends have been for a walk – these walks being tailored to the dogs Helen is walking that day.  She treats all the dogs as her own giving them a wonderful home from home experience.  Gillian & Steve, High Wycombe

November 2018 – present. I can’t be happier with Helen’s boarding service.  My little dog, Hotpot, Llasapoo, is in doggy heaven when he stays and goes to so many places to which he has never been and made so  many doggy friends.  Whilst I am on holiday he’s also having a holiday of his own.  Vicky, High Wycombe

October 2018 – present. We always leave our Springer Spaniel, Alfie, with Helen safe in the knowledge that he will be happy and well looked after. We look forward to the photos of his daily walks, complete with funny captions, and these give us peace of mind that he’s having a lovely holiday! Dawn & Andy, Flackwell Heath

June 2018 – present. We have known Helen for a few years now and Flynn, our black Labrador, goes on ‘holidays’ to Helen’s place several times a year. There is no doubting that Flynn loves Helen and enjoys staying with her. He is always guaranteed a lovely, lengthy walk and enjoys the company of other dogs. What makes Helen special is that she treats Flynn like one of her own.  We decided that we did not want Flynn to go to a kennel but we did want him to have company so Helen’s service is the best of both worlds for Flynn- a home away from home with friends!!   We highly recommend Helen…but not too loudly because that would mean she would have too many clients and Flynn would miss out!!! Jennifer & Max, London

November 2017 – present. We have had some very bad experiences in the past with dog sitters so it takes a lot for us to trust someone with our babies but rest assured that Helen is trustworthy and very caring even down to spoon feeding one of ours her dinner due to her being awkward. Cannot recommend her enough and will always use her services in the future and our girls love her. Ten out of Ten. Ellis & Alison, New Forest.

October 2017 – present. My lovely but very nervous collie Toby Cuddles absolutely enjoys staying at Peace of Mind Dogboarding. Helen is well organised with dates and has always replied promptly any time I email. When I am away I am kept informed on a regular basis with photographs and texts about what Toby and the other dogs have been up to.   It is a home from home. Toby runs up the drive whenever he goes to stay and comes back home happy and tired out. Fiona, Cambridge

September 2017 – present. We are so lucky to have found Helen to look after Daisy, our German Short-haired Pointer, when we go away! Helen is very professional and amazing with dogs, Daisy gets so excited when we pull onto the drive and she knows where she is. We can enjoy our holiday knowing Daisy is having a great time and being looked after extremely well. Helen updates us with pictures and Facebook posts while we are away so we can see what fun she is having and we love this! Chris & Kelly, Bourne End

May 2017 – present. Going away on holiday can be stressful for dog owners; you have to find someone who you really trust in order to be happy leaving your fur-baby with them. We had tried a few places before finding Helen and I can honestly say that Peace of Mind Dog Boarding is just THE BEST! I’ve never seen Rolo happier and in better health than when we collected him from Helen. Rolo is a mini dachshund, so pretty high maintenance and often requires ‘special walks’ if he’s feeling precious! Helen dealt with him so well and we could tell that she treated him like her own and totally loved him like we do…we are so grateful and will definitely be booking him in again next time I travel. Thanks, Helen! Rachel, Devon.

January 2017 – present.  Thank you Helen for taking such good care of Benson, our Labrador Retriever, while we were away. It was so lovely to see the photos of him on Facebook enjoying all the fab walks you took him on. He looked relaxed and happy when we picked him up. We really can’t recommend you enough! Jo & Tim, Kingston Blount, Oxon.

August 2016 – present.  This really is a home from home for Willow, our Hungarian Vizsla – fabulous walks, great photos and a very happy dog. I would highly recommend Helen’s dog boarding.  Janie & Martin, Wendover.

December 2015 – present.  I have a quite nervous Yorkshire Terrier called Rosie.  She also has an allergy and cannot eat any meat. I had been worried about leaving her while I went on long holidays until we tried Peace of Mind.  Rosie adores Helen and is so happy to stay with her.  What I like about Peace of Mind is that they post the photos of dogs every day.  You can see Rosie playing with other dogs and having a good time.  I stopped worrying about Rosie while on holiday now.  When Rosie stayed with other dog boarding places, she was clearly eating something she should not have and was often covered in rash when she came home.  However, she has been absolutely fine at Peace of Mind.  She always comes home looking very well and happy.  Aya, High Wycombe

October 2013 – present. We’d be lost without Helen.  We weren’t sure we would trust someone to take our English Pointer puppy, Lionel, out (he’s high energy and can be a bit of a handful!). But from the first time we met Helen we knew she was perfect! She is always on hand to offer advice on training & Lionel has learnt so much from his walks with Helen and the rest of the dogs.  Lionel also LOVES going to stay with Helen, Bruno and Colin – he is treated just like part of the family and it means we can go away for a weekend without worrying at all. And he comes home exhausted!!   Thanks so much Helen – your walks, boarding services and advice has helped Lionel grow from a slightly crazy puppy to a lovely dog!  Anna & Chris, High Wycombe

September 2013 – present. Kirsty, our Miniature Schnauzer, has boarded with Helen for the past 10 years when we have been away. We have complete trust in Helen.  Kirsty is always very well cared for and is in tip top condition when we pick her up. Helen’s daily Facebook pictures are a joy when you are missing your pooch. David & Lyn, Little Marlow.

April 2013 – present.  If a well-exercised dog is a happy dog then Helen Sage of Peace of Mind helps to keep our Border Terrier Dill very happy!  We love to go on long walks but we also have to work, often from home, so having Helen take Dill out for a long walk and play with other dogs every day was good for all of us.  We have now moved to Manchester, but still bring Dill back to stay with Helen for boarding. Helen is not only professional and efficient she is also fantastic with Dill and he loves her (and the treats she keeps in her pocket). We have also really valued her advice and help with training Dill when we’ve needed it.  Peace of mind is the perfect way to describe the dog boarding service Helen provides and the photos after each walk are the cherry on the cake.  Polly & Kath, Manchester

April 2013 – present: Tinkerbell & Freddie, my Jack Russells, have been with Helen for over 10 years now, and she is my saviour and go-to-woman for all things dog related. Tinks and Freddie are lucky enough to enjoy holidays at Helen’s (boarding), walks, and most recently Tinks has had the pleasure of being groomed by Helen.  Freddie is a rescue, and thanks to Helen’s help, advice and socialising , he has come on leaps and bounds. Helen understands that he needs to be on lead , as she knows this is the safest place for him (he was a stray and has a high chase instinct), until he manages to learn recall.  Tinks is slightly better behaved than her brother! but needs some extra TLC when it comes to her allergies, again Helen happily obliges.  Both T&F adore Helen and they both get so excited when she arrives to collect them for walks, and happily go into her home for their holidays without so much as a backwards glance at me!  I know they are in safe hands, and the emails and communication from Helen makes leaving them a lot easier! Coming home from a holiday, and being able to see what they have been up to whilst boarding is fantastic. I know that whenever Helen walks/boards my terrible two, I will return home to two very sleepy and happy pooches! Rebecca, High Wycombe
