Emma’s Dog House

Be the first to review

Welcome to Emma’s Dog House – Herefordshire

Loved and cared for, your best friend stays in our home not kennels, giving you total piece of mind while you are at work, busy or away.

We take great pride in offering exceptional, professional home from home Day Care and Boarding services with very high standards and attention to detail. We are inspected and approved by Herefordshire Council and hold a 5 star Licence / Number:N-HOB26 and we are fully insured with Pet Business Insurance.

Based in Herefordshire we only look after a small number of dogs at any one time ensuring your fur baby will be a safe, cherished, loved member of our family with sofas to sleep on, friends to play with and limitless cuddles 🙂

We take security very seriously. We do not advertise or publish our address, you won’t find us on Google Maps and we work on an appointment basis only.

With 25 years experience working in animal welfare, positive training methods, rescue and rehabilitation, Emma is also Ofqual Level 3 qualified in professional Day Care and Boarding and trained in canine first aid and emergency care. A question owners are uncomfortable to ask, but it is important for you to know – we don’t smoke or drink. This may be our home but the welfare of your dog comes first.
We have an acre of a safe and secure garden, orchard and a paddock for the dogs to run and play in, plus quiet areas both inside and out where the dogs can snooze and relax. Once we get to know your dog and your dog gets to know us, we can also go out for walks to the woods.

We are a child free home and dog owners ourselves, so we aim to always offer what we would want for our own dogs if we had to go away. There is always someone at home so dogs are never left alone and there is CCTV on the property.

Because we offer a very personal care service we ask that you come and meet us and see where your dog would be staying before making a booking. Please see our Pre Booking Information Page for further details.

About Emma
Since I can remember I have had the privilege of sharing my life with dogs. My first steps were taken by hanging on to the collar of our beautiful Dalmatian Dolly who was my best and constant friend. I grew up in a pack rather than a family as my mother home boarded dogs and they have inhabited my heart ever since. All kinds of dogs including rescue, foster, young, old and unwanted dogs have blessed and enriched my life.

During my career I have predominantly worked with horses and I have been lucky to have lived and worked in America, Australia and across the UK ultimately specialising in animal welfare and specifically in positive handling and training methods. Understanding and working with animal behaviour and emotions has always been a passion and way of life for me.

Over the last few years I have been listening to owners struggling to find a professional alternative to kennels. This has resulted in me going full circle and opening my home, with my partner, our two dogs and my mother (just as she did all those years ago) for dogs needing a fun, knowledgeable, safe and loving place to stay.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions.

Pre Booking Information

Please read all the information below and do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions or to discuss your dogs requirements.

Viewing and Trial Day
Because we offer a very personal care service we ask that you come and meet us and see where your dog would be staying before making a booking. After this and if you decide you would like us to look after your dog, we ask that your dog has a day trial with us first. This helps us see if your dog will feel comfortable enough to settle and also offers them a chance to spend time with us and get to know the house and grounds. We have found giving new dogs this opportunity really helps them relax when they come back for day care or to board because there is some familiarity in place for them.

Behaviour
As our visiting dogs live together and with us it is imperative that they are well socialised and get on with other dogs. For this reason we do not accept dogs with any aggressive tendencies.

Neutered & Spayed
As the dogs live in our home and play together we have to ask that all dogs and bitches must be neutered or spayed. This is to avoid the obvious and to maintain a stress free happy, friendly, safe environment for all our canine guests.

Vaccinations
Your up to date vaccination card MUST accompany your dog and be left with us or your dog will have to be refused under Herefordshire Licensing regulations. Kennel Cough however, is not obligatory under home boarding regulation so we do not insist on this and leave the decision up to each client.
Please note: If your dog has had a kennel cough injection he or she will not be able to come for 6 weeks as it is a live vaccination.

Age
> Young dogs – Due to changes in the licensing regulations, we sadly no longer look after dogs under 1
> Older dogs – We only accept dogs over the age of 10 for boarding if they have been on our books and become older. For new dogs age 10 and over we only offer day care.

Boarding

Your dog can sleep with other guests, have their own room, or if they are used to sleeping on your bed – we offer that too!
If your dog is crate trained and you wish us to continue this we have small to giant size crates available.

Feeding
If your dog is boarding we ask that you supply your dogs food for the duration of their stay because this provides important continuity for your dog, and prevents any digestive upsets from a change of diet. If your dog is staying for the day but not being picked up untill the evening we ask that you bring a meal for your dog so they are not left out when the dogs get fed at 5pm.

If your dog is used to freshly prepared and cooked meat there is a £1.50 per day surcharge.

The Dogs Come First
We do not automatically book dogs in just because we have space as we always take into consideration who is with us so we can match compatibility.

Security
We take security very seriously! We are not open to the public and you will not find us on Google maps! We only work on an appointment basis. We are not on a main road and we do not advertise our location. There is CCTV externally and internally on the property and the dogs are never left. There is always someone on the property 24/7 without exception.

Dates and Times

Due to limited parking and so owners do not arrive at the same time, we arrange arrival and pick up times when you make a booking. We will always try and be as flexible as possible for you.

Dog Safe Transport We offer a personalised collection and or return service, plus we can take your dog to their vet or grooming appointments while staying with us. Please contact us to discuss your requirements and for more information.
